There is a very specific kind of magic that only happens when the air turns crisp, and a Disney Channel Original Movie is playing in the background. These four hit differently once you are old enough to notice the plot holes and still choose to ignore them completely!
Halloweentown (1998)
Every great Halloween movie tradition has to start somewhere, and for a huge chunk of us, it started with three siblings discovering their grandmother lives in an entire town built for the spooky season. Marnie’s journey into a world of witches, warlocks, and every kind of creature imaginable set the standard that so many DCOMs tried to follow afterward. The costumes still hold up, the humor still lands, and Kalabar remains one of the most quietly terrifying villains of our childhood. This one earns its spot as the original blueprint.
Twitches (2005)
Long-lost twin sisters, hidden magical powers, and a whole kingdom in danger of falling into darkness. Twitches gave Tia and Tamera Mowry a new lane after Sister, Sister, and it turned out to be the perfect one. Alex and Camryn’s reunion is sweet before it gets emotional, and the sisterhood at the center of the story is honestly what makes people return to this one every October. It’s a movie that knows exactly what it is and never apologizes for it.
Under Wraps (1997)
Before Halloweentown ever aired, this was the one that convinced Disney Channel that spooky season movies were worth making at all. Three friends stumble onto a mummy named Harold, and instead of running for their lives, they try to help him. It is a little rough around the edges by today’s standards, but that is exactly the charm. The film got a remake in 2021, and while it has its fans, nothing beats going back to the original for the full nostalgic effect.
Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009)
Not every entry on this list needs to be about mummies and monsters to earn its place in the fall rotation. Watching the Russo family chase down the Stone of Dreams across a Caribbean vacation gone wrong is the kind of comfort watch that never gets old. Selena Gomez, David Henrie, and Jake T. Austin brought the show’s chemistry straight to the big screen, and the result became one of the most-watched DCOM premieres of all time. If cozy season calls for a little magic without the scares, this is the pick!
Four movies, endless nostalgia, and not a single one of them requires an explanation for why we are still talking about them decades later. What do you think, did we miss your favorite? Let us know in the comments below or over on Twitter, and don’t forget to talk to us on Facebook and Instagram!
