Our playlists have been in bloom with Taylor Felt’s ELECTRABLOOM EP ever since she planted it in our lives and hearts this summer, but the party is far from over! She’s taking us to the dance floor with a new companion project, ELECTRA, which amps up the original EP’s dancepop influences into anthems that you’ll ‘FALL 4’ from the very first listen, while also giving us a brand new anthem with the previously unreleased ‘WAVES.’ After years of wowing us with her thoughtful lyrics and how much heart she puts into her music, Taylor is truly in her ‘BLOOMING SZN,’ finding her voice and aesthetic like never before.
We’re buzzing over the fact that we got to talk to Taylor all about reimagining ELECTRABLOOM into ELECTRA, her favorite remixes on the EP, the creative process, and more! Get your dancing shoes on, press play on ELECTRA, and dive in with us.
Hi Taylor, congratulations on the release of your ELECTRA project! What has it been like for you to see how fans are reacting to these new versions of the ELECTRABLOOM EP songs?
Thank you!! It’s truly been so gratifying to see how people are loving these remixes, it makes my heart so full!
What made you want to reimagine ELECTRABLOOM with this remix companion project?
I felt like there was more to dive into sonically, ELECTRABLOOM is already a dance/pop project but I was yearning for versions that went all the way into the Dance/EDM lane.
Which remix are you most excited for fans to hear on ELECTRA? Did a certain one really surprise you on your first listen?
Ooo that’s so hard to pick!! I would say I’m most excited for people to hear ‘WAVES’ since it’s been 4 years since I wrote this song and I can’t believe it’s out in the world!! As for remixes, I was most surprised by ‘KNIGHT IN DYING ARMOR’ (DIIIVA Remix) and ‘BLOOMING SZN’ (Holmesick Remix). The way DIIIVA and Holmesick completely shapeshifted those songs made me love them even more.
You wrote the latest remixed single, ‘BLOOMING SZN,’ by yourself in your childhood bedroom and got to premiere it to a secret party in LA. What is it like for you to see your music go from something just for you to something that people all over the world can enjoy? Do you know that certain songs will resonate most when you’re working on them?
It’s so wild to create something so close to my chest and then release it for people to listen to and resonate to. Such a magical feeling, especially at the party to see people dancing, singing and feeling a sense of freedom while listening to this music. It felt unifying and emotional. As for knowing if certain songs will resonate – I have my own favorites but sometimes I get surprised which songs people get drawn to!
ELECTRA also includes a new song, ‘WAVES’ with ALXi! What was the process behind that song like? What made you want to add it to the ELECTRA project?
‘WAVES!’ Can’t believe it’s finally out – it’s been 4 years in the making! I wrote it in 2022 the day after ALXi, my friends, and I all saw Kendrick Lamar live. ALXi sent me the idea and I wrote it while getting ready & then went to the studio and cut the vocals! I ended up never recutting the vocals so the demo vocals are the final! I’ve been waiting for the right time to release it and making it the focus track of this dance project felt SO right.
Inspired by the ‘BLOOMING SZN’ lyric, “my best decision was leaving you,” what do you think was the best decision you made while creating ELECTRABLOOM?
I think my best decision was naming the project, ELECTRABLOOM. I was playing with a bunch of different titles: Eternal Bloom, Electric Bloom, Electrobloom. Until one day it hit me, ELECTRABLOOM!! I had this title before any of the music was made, I wanted to build the world first and then create the soundtrack for it.
Speaking of lyrics, there are so many beautiful ones on ELECTRA and ELECTRABLOOM! We love vivid lines like “I cry with wasted strangers ‘cause I don’t wanna drive home” on ‘KNIGHT IN DYING ARMOR.’ Is there a certain line you’re especially proud of?
Wowww thank you so much!! I’m so happy you love these lyrics, I’m so proud of them. My favorite and most personal lyrics are on ‘BLOOMING SZN’ and ‘KNIGHT IN DYING ARMOR.’ My specific favorite from ‘KNIGHT IN DYING ARMOR’ is “Your kiss feels like skin and bones, When I’m with you I’m more alone.” This lyric from ‘BLOOMING SZN’ was so powerful and confessional to write, “I love who I’m becoming, first time saying that out loud.” That line being the last lyric of the entire EP perfectly wrapped up where I’m at on my healing journey, I’m in full bloom.
Something we’ve loved about the ELECTRABLOOM era has been the cool song visualizers and your style! What inspires the visual side of your music?
Thank youuu! I love creative directing and styling! My inspirations are Y2K Futurism, Chromecore, and Soft Gothic. I love watching movies, 2010s music videos and Y2K commercials! I coined this ELECTRABLOOM aesthetic as Chrome Botanical <3
With ELECTRA being just the first half of the ELECTRABLOOM title, we can’t help but wonder if we’ll hear a BLOOM installment in the future! Which other genres and vibes would you want to play with for another ELECTRABLOOM reimagining?
Oooo who knows hehe! I definitely do want to reimagine these songs in a lofi, unplugged way, so maybe more versions are coming soon.
A few months ago, you shared a photo of the whiteboard where you wrote the ELECTRABLOOM title before you started working on the EP. What kinds of things do you like to plan before or while you’re creating new music? Do those plans change often throughout the process?
I love my whiteboard! Yesss as for this project I wanted to have the title, world and environment that these songs would live in – similarly to writing songs for a movie but the movie is this era of my life. Sometimes it’s easier to write in a container and I feel being as intentional as possible makes the songs truly feel like a cohesive world.
We’re so excited to keep watching you BLOOM as an artist! What are your goals for the rest of 2026 and as we head into 2027?
I see whatcha did there! I’m so excited for what’s in store, I might have one more song release before the end of this year, but it’s a secret! On November 14th, I got invited to perform at TwitchCon in San Diego! I’m so excited to perform ELECTRABLOOM live with my band for the first time! As for 2027, I’m manifesting more performances and touring!
Is there anything else you’d like to mention or say to fans that the questions didn’t touch on?
Move your body, love out loud and make sure to pour into you, that’s the only way to bloom. <3
