Bleachers Kick Off Tour With Sold-Out Rooftop Concert

Spending a night on The Rooftop at Pier 17 in Manhattan with Bleachers for the second sold-out concert of the Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night Tour? Yes, please!

We’ve waited so long for new Bleachers music, and finally got to hear it live. Absolutely life-changing night if you ask us.

The show kicked off with bedroom pop singer-songwriter Claud. They had the crowd amped and ready to rock from the first song. Hearing the lyrics “Nothing like a New York summer” hits different when it’s literally the end of summer in New York.

When Bleachers finally took the stage, the energy was buzzing. The crowd at the sold-out venue was dancing so much you could feel the roof shake. We were singing so loud we wouldn’t be shocked if they heard it at the VMA‘s across the river.

In classic Jack Antonoff fashion, the “New Jersey” count was around seven mentions by the third song. If you didn’t know Bleachers was a Jersey band before, you definitely did now. Jack even put on a NJ baseball cap later and covered Tom Waits’ ‘Jersey Girl.’ Yeah, they definitely haven’t lost the New Jersey brand.

Bleachers are so good live. From vocals to keys to percussion to saxes, every part of the show was somehow even better than the studio albums. We got to hear a mix of old classics and a lot of the newest album, Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night. They even brought Claud back out to sing Lana Del Ray’s part in ‘Secret Life.’

When Jack Antonoff says “get up on each other’s shoulders” for ‘Rollercoaster,’ you do it. Looking around at the Manhattan skyline while singing one of our favorite songs together was a moment we’ll never forget.

When Jack picked up his acoustic for a song, the crowd started chanting for him to play ‘august’ by Taylor Swift. He gave us a laugh and said “Guys, I can’t sing that!” before playing the most beautiful version of ’45’ we’ve ever heard.

Every member of Bleachers made sure to show their appreciation for everyone there – knowing it meant as much to us as it did to them. It’s been a long two years, and it was time we all came together for a show.

We’re so glad we got to join Bleachers for the second concert of Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night Tour on The Rooftop at Pier 17. It was truly one of the most electric shows we’ve been to… like ever.
