Oh Ophelia, We Lost Our Minds at The Lumineers

The Lumineers played Glasgow’s Hydro last week and it was heavenly! We donned our best flares and lived out our witchy rock dreams before we danced and sang our way through one of the best sets we’ve seen all year.

Off the back of their latest album BRIGHTSIDE, which by the way we are completely obsessed with, we couldn’t wait to see what surprises the boys had in store for us. We were not disappointed! Gregory Allen Isakov and his band opened the night, whose soulful tunes had us shedding the occasional tear. Not only did they sound angelic but the way they captivated the entire arena was awe-inspiring. You can be sure that we’ll catch them on their next stop in Scotland!

Soon after the house lights dropped once again and the real party of the night began. Thundering drums, courtesy of Jeremaih Fraites, rang out and our own hearts quickly matched pace. As the chords of ‘BRIGHTSIDE’ echoed around the Hydro we felt like we’d come home at last. Here at THP HQ, we’ve adored The Lumineers since their early career hit ‘Ho Hey’ dropped ten years ago and we’ve loved every second since.

There is something quintessentially nostalgic and jubilant about this band’s music. Whenever we hit play on a Lumineers record our troubles melt away into the background and this is no exception when they play live. With a setlist that effortlessly stitched together our old-time favorites like ‘Ophelia’ and ‘Scotland’ with brand new tunes from their latest record, a grand old evening was had by all!
