It’s been 13 months since Silk Sonic, AKA Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak debuted with ‘Leave The Door Open,’ and it really has been lucky number 13 for them. The duo has been an unstoppable force, and with the 64th GRAMMYs taking place in Las Vegas this year, where better to continue Silk Sonic’s lucky streak?
Their album An Evening With Silk Sonic went to number two on the Billboard 200 and, more importantly, in our humble opinion, made our Top 50 Albums of 2021 list. An Evening With Silk Sonic spawned hits like ‘Leave The Door Open’ and ‘Skate,’ but with an album, is this good? You don’t even need to stick to the singles.
For their performance, which opened the GRAMMYs ceremony, Silk Sonic chose to perform ‘777’ (which, not to flex, but The Honey Pop had previously pointed out as a highlight of the album). Their performance was a masterclass, and one of the best of the show. But for Silk Sonic, the night was still young!
A Clean Sweep!
Bruno and Anderson swept every single category they were nominated in! Thanks to the power of ‘Leave The Door Open,’ they took home the GRAMMYs for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B song!
When we say that Silk Sonic is on a roll right now, we really mean it. Their success on Sunday night is just extending their lucky streaks! Anderson .Paak has now won GRAMMYs for four consecutive years, with a total of eight. And well, Bruno hasn’t lost a single GRAMMY nomination since 2014, winning 14 consecutively since then.
When a track has an impact like ‘Leave The Door Open’ had in 2021, there’s no denying it deserves all the accolades. Silk Sonic’s sound is unlike anything else happening in music right now; we love to see their experimentation, chemistry, and talent be celebrated! When you’re that good, maybe it’s not luck after all…
