3 Kendrick Lamar Songs We Can’t Wait To Hear Live From Paris

After wrapping up the US leg of The Big Steppers Tour in September, Kendrick Lamar has finally set off across Europe! Kicking off the tour in Amsterdam on October 7th, Kendrick is set to play over twenty shows in Europe and the UK and we’re seriously jealous of anyone who has managed to get tickets to any of the European shows. If you’re like us, however, and didn’t manage to snag yourself some tickets then today is your lucky day: Amazon Music will be live-streaming Kendrick’s show in Paris on October 22nd!

Amazon Music and Prime will be live streaming the sold-out show from 2pm ET and it will be available in 240 territories and countries worldwide. That’s right, it doesn’t matter where you are, you’ll be able to watch Kendrick Lamar live in Paris! And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll even be able to stream the concert on-demand on Amazon Prime afterward. How exciting! The live stream can be found on their Twitch account here.

As well as Kendrick Lamar, the stream will also feature Baby Keem and Tanna Leone, both of whom have featured on the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers album and are signed to Kendrick’s own creative imprint, pgLang. Tim Henshaw, Amazon Music’s head of R&B and hip-hop, shared his personal feelings and appreciation for Kendrick Lamar and his music:

“As a kid from the west side of Compton, hearing good kid, m.A.A.d city for the first time and seeing Kendrick’s journey from neighborhood hero to global superstar ignited a fire in me that I’m forever grateful for. It showed me that no matter where you start in life, hard work and dedication will put you where you hope and dream to be,”

So, to celebrate the fact that we all have the chance to see Kendrick Lamar live, we thought we’d share three of the songs that we are most excited to see Kendrick play live in Paris!

‘Crown’

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is, perhaps, Kendrick’s most vulnerable and intimate album to date and this is showcased perfectly through songs like ‘Crown.’ ‘Crown’ discusses the pressures and responsibilities that come along with fame and how these pressures impact your relationships, with Kendrick ultimately deciding that “You can’t please everybody.” The lyrics to this song are intricately crafted, with Kendrick making reference to Shakespeare’s Henry IV play through the lyrics “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” This lyric reaffirms the weight that fame can have on an individual and adds to the overall intimate feel of the song.

‘Crown’ features towards the end of Kendrick’s setlist and we think it will feel even more emotional and personal in a live performance.

‘HUMBLE’

Released as a single from his 2017 DAMN album, ‘HUMBLE’ is one of Kendrick Lamar’s best-known songs and is, unsurprisingly, a staple in his setlists. ‘HUMBLE’ features a confident and powerful beat that is complimented perfectly by Kendrick’s flawless style of rap. Contrasting the beat and production, the song’s lyrics urge other rappers and Kendrick himself to “Be humble” and “Sit Down.” He re-affirms the juxtaposing messages of humility and confidence through the use of religious imagery and references throughout the lyrics. This is a classic Kendrick Lamar track that we just know is going to be absolutely insane to hear live.

‘Mr. Morale’

Like ‘Crown,’ ‘Mr. Morale’ will feature towards the end of Kendrick’s setlist and we can’t wait to see how it is performed live. This song is Kendrick’s only song that features Tanna Leone who will, presumably, be joining him on stage for the performance. Lyrically, the song discusses the idea of generational trauma in relation to race and gender, and questions how trauma affects us in the long run. Despite these really dark and reflective themes, the song features a heavy beat that is perfect for the large arenas Kendrick has been playing in. The contrast of this beat and the lyrics will make for a super interesting life experience that we’re sure will be incredibly unique and personal.
