6 watt-Produced Songs You Need On Your Playlist

If you’re a fan of pop music, there’s a huge chance you’ve fallen in love with at least one song produced by Andrew Watt, better known as watt! He’s one of the most talented producers out there, and your favorite artists would agree – he’s worked with everyone from 5 Seconds of Summer to Post Malone, with a fresh sound every single time that never fails to blow us away.

watt told Esquire earlier this year that one of the best pieces of advice he’s ever gotten was from the legendary Rick Rubin, who told him that a great producer helps an artist hone in on their sound and energy rather than trying to shape it, and that’s what he’s done! The production on each song he touches always feels very dynamic, with every track having its own charms and energy that helps it stand out in his catalog.

Simply put, you need watt’s work on your favorite playlists. But where do you start when he has so many awe-inspiring releases? Don’t worry; we’ve got you – here are just six of our favorite songs watt has produced!

Dua Lipa – ‘Break My Heart’

From the moment that iconic bassline kicks in, you know you’re in for a treat with ‘Break My Heart!’ watt worked with Monsters & Strangerz for this unforgettable Dua Lipa track all about falling for someone who may or may not break your heart later, and the slick synths and bass match the adrenaline of the lyrics (which watt also helped write) so well. Not only was this watt and Dua’s first time working together, but they wrote and produced the song in one day – can you believe that?

5 Seconds Of Summer – ‘Not In The Same Way’

watt has worked on so many of our favorite 5SOS hits, including ‘Youngblood’ and ‘Teeth,’ but we wanted to spotlight a song that we don’t think gets enough appreciation! ‘Not In The Same Way’ is about a relationship where one person clearly cares more than the other, and watt’s production with benny blanco is so thoughtful while complementing that theme. The repetitive guitar strumming throughout the song matches how the feelings in the relationship keep going in circles, and the energy gets more intense during the chorus when Luke lets out his frustration.

Miley Cyrus – ‘Midnight Sky’

The production on ‘Midnight Sky’ just sounds the way freedom feels, don’t you agree? watt teamed up with Louis Bell for this ode to independence after a breakup, and they really brought Miley’s confident energy to the next level. ‘Midnight Sky’ is the perfect combination of glimmering 80s vibes and futuristic forward thinking, inspiring you to recognize your self-worth and celebrate who you are! There’s no way you can listen to this song and not feel motivated to push through what you’re dealing with at the moment.

Post Malone – ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger’

watt has worked on so many incredible Post Malone songs, from ‘Feeling Whitney’ to ‘Take What You Want’ (he even helped get Ozzy Osbourne on the song), and the most recent anthem he’s helped give us is the upbeat breakup song ‘Wrapped Around Your Finger.’ Produced alongside Post Malone himself, Louis Bell, and Omer Fedi, this bouncy track fluctuates between dreamy synth sections and more drum-driven verses, which mirrors the contrast in the title lyric: “I was wrapped around your finger, then I shot back down to earth.” The production brings the story to life in such a mesmerizing way and really complements the emotion Post always puts into his vocals.

Selena Gomez & Marshmello – ‘Wolves’

Whether you see it as a dark love song or a recount of her experiences with Lupus, there’s no denying that ‘Wolves’ with Marshmello is one of Selena Gomez’s most stunning songs. watt is partly to thank for that – he worked on the immersive production alongside Marshmello! It captures the intensity of the lyrics with an alluring drop on the chorus that instantly gets stuck in your head, and we’d run through the jungle with the wolves if it meant we could listen to this song on repeat forever.

watt – ‘Burning Man’ Feat. Post Malone

Of course, we couldn’t make this list without including one of watt’s own songs! He joined forces with Post Malone yet again for ‘Burning Man’ in January 2017, which he produced with the stellar Louis Bell and Ben Billions. You’re instantly hooked in by an energetic guitar riff – one of watt’s specialties – before a trap beat kicks in and watt and Post take turns with effortlessly cool verses. This is a party anthem, but a party anthem unlike anything you’ve heard before. watt told Guitar Center that he’s slowly working on a solo album, so we hope to hear more thrilling songs like ‘Burning Man’ and more mind-blowing features!

Which of these songs is your favorite? If you could tell watt to produce a song for one artist he hasn’t worked with before, who would you choose? Let us know in the comments below, or hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
