If you’re anything like us at THP, then there was a solid period of 2-3 years where you made Meet The Vamps your entire personality. If not, can you really blame us though? It’s really one of the most iconic debut albums of this century, and it introduced us to the legends that are The Vamps in such a charming way. Brad, James, Connor, and Tristan really made a splash with this record, and they even co-wrote almost every song on it!
Not only did the album help us Meet The Vamps, but it brought us into a world of fun nights with friends, falling in love for the first time, and finding out who you are and what you want to do in life. It’s playful and exciting, but also mature and grounded, as the boys found their footing as one of the most impressive UK bands of our generation. We’ll never forget the first time we listened and how we instantly knew it would change our lives.
And now, for the first time, we can finally get our hands on a Meet The Vamps vinyl! Last year, the boys celebrated their 10th anniversary as a band with special content and a greatest hits tour, and this year, they’re celebrating the 9th anniversary of Meet The Vamps with a gorgeous blue record. Ugh, just look at how beautiful it is. It’s available for pre-order ahead of its release on June 9th, so pick one up right here!
To celebrate the anniversary of Meet The Vamps and to keep us busy while the Vamily waits for the vinyls to arrive, we wanted to share some of our favorite underrated songs from the album! We highly recommend listening to the full project, of course, but if you’re looking for a little preview, or you’re already a Vamps fan want to take a musical walk down Memory Lane, these are a great start. And all four of the boys have writing credits on each of our picks!
“People like to talk,” but they simply don’t talk about ‘Another World’ enough. This is the ultimate star-crossed lovers anthem, seeing the boys reflect on a relationship that couldn’t be while also wondering about what it could’ve been like in an alternate reality. It’s dreamy and heartbreaking at the same time, so there’s a little something for everyone.
‘Girls On TV’
Between hits like ‘Wild Heart,’ ‘Can We Dance,’ and ‘Oh Cecilia,’ there’s no shortage of bops on Meet The Vamps! But we think ‘Girls On TV’ deserves just as much hype. It’s all about comparing a girl to superstars like Beyoncé and Rihanna (in an endearing way, we promise) and celebrating how we all have that star quality within us.
‘Shout About It’
Another sweet love song, but this time, with a happier meaning! ‘Shout About It’ is about being there for a partner through a difficult time and finding a way to enjoy being with them even if they’re “tired and blue.” This song really taught our young teenage selves what a supportive relationship should look like, and it’s still a staple on our playlists. The instrumentation is also so pretty!
We have high hopes for anything The Vamps release, and ‘High Hopes’ truly delivered back in the day. It’s a cheerful song about imagining a future with a new crush, and it sounds like what happiness feels like. Obligatory shoutout for one of our favorite Vamps lyrics of all time: “I can move in with you and we could get married, too, go on a honeymoon… maybe we should finish this coffee first.” If you’re the kind of person who daydreams about a lifetime together after the first date, this one’s for you.
Finally, another happy song that never fails to boost our moods! ‘Smile’ was written by only The Vamps with no co-writers, and there’s so much amazing energy here. It’s all about wanting to cheer up someone you care about, and we know it totally worked if they played it for that person. We also love the lyrical reference to ‘Lovestruck,’ another underrated Meet The Vamps song!
