The Show Must Go On And Niall Horan Ensures It Does

We know that many of us, including THP, have been upset about the never-ending One Direction hiatus. However, there are a few pros that have come from that hiatus that many of us might be hesitant to admit. We aren’t though! Since the split of One Direction, we have continued to receive albums from all of the former members that best represent them more authentically in lyricism, musicality, sound, production, and expression. This is the most authentic and most risk-taking version of those boys that we get to experience. Now we get to add one more solo album to enjoy into the mix. Niall Horan has released his third studio album, The Show, and it is perfectly Niall Horan.

The Show, following Heartbreak Weather and Flicker, is the most pop-sounding album we’ve received from Niall, and we’re not complaining. We love that Niall has great versatility in his music, crossing in and out of folk-pop, soft rock, country, and pop. It shows how Niall can make anything work across different genres and influences from those genres to captivate new and old fans to enjoy his albums. The Show is no different in getting positive attention toward Niall.

Niall Horan’s The Show Is A 5-Star Experience

The Show symbolizes so much for Niall. This is the first album that he’s released since March 2020 – Niall fans have been waiting for years to get not just a new song, but a whole new album. Things changed when Niall unveiled the leading single of The Show with the gorgeous light and groovy ‘Heaven.’ A bit later, Niall released ‘Meltdown’ as the second single off The Show, giving fans a different idea of what The Show will entail.

‘Heaven’ is a song about deep love that, like a flame, can be enjoyed in a warming embrace. Or that deep love can be destructive in every path it takes if it becomes dangerously out of control, decimating everything in its place. ‘Heaven’ is all about maintaining the relationship in its fullest with adoration, while being aware that like a neatly-kept flame, a relationship can be destructive. Regardless, they try to keep heaven (happiness) within reach.

‘Meltdown’ is a gorgeous song that is made to almost replicate the feeling of a meltdown. The fast-paced underbeat of the song matched with the lyrics captures the wave of experiencing the weight of the world falling down. However, Niall reassures us that these types of moments are a bit more normal than we realize. He made the song as a way to say that regardless of the good and the bad that you experience, Niall is going to constantly be there on the other side. He gently sends a message that whether it’s with his music, other types of media, or shows, he will be there (indirectly) when you need him to feel okay.

‘The Show’ Represents Niall’s New Era Perfectly

The Show is an incredible album that showcases Niall very well. The album title track, ‘The Show,’ is a spectacular song. It’s not necessarily a ballad, but not your full-fledged pop song, either. It’s a gorgeous song that is highly reflective of more internal dialogue that almost resembles the “fake it till you make it” attitude. ‘The Show’ makes us sit down and think about those what-ifs, or perhaps those things that we wish we did or didn’t do. However, without those moments, our lives wouldn’t be where they are now and what our lives could become.

‘The Show’ doesn’t erase the bad or ugly that appears in life, nor does it ignore the good that comes from it. It’s a song that is a bit more optimistic than we realize. “Looking at the sun our whole lives. We’re blinded by the lights.” We humans try to be blindly optimistic and regardless of where we end up, we want to aim for the better and soak in all of the moments we strived for. In a way, the song is a mirror reflection back towards ourselves and even towards Niall.

We imagine this melodramatic song being a reflection of Niall’s experiences. There’s the professional side that was blinded by the lights of starting his music career with One Direction. We know how that changed his life and he got redirected to where he is now. It wouldn’t be shocking if there are moments for Niall when he thinks about the what-ifs around that experience. Then there’s the personal side – which from the lyrics we can imagine entails the ups, downs, possible regrets, and hopes that Niall still has.

‘The Show’ Music Video Gives Us “There’s No Business Like Show Business”

Let us repeat again, it is a melodramatic song. ‘The Show’ has an amazing music video that once you watch and compare to what we have said thus far, will make more sense to the feeling and experience we are trying to describe. The music video feels very personal and stripped back as we see Niall backstage preparing for, well, the show. Yet the visuals for the song feel like another feeling besides optimism is present. It’s nervousness in the face of doing something big while taking a blind leap of faith. “How good we had it though?” Take those risks and hold on for the ride, we might just like what we see on the other side.
