It’s safe to say we are always beyond ready to love and support anything Hayley Kiyoko does. She puts her heart and soul into every single thing she does, how could we not love her loyally in return? Her new single ‘somewhere between the sand and the stardust’ is another example of how music is human nature to Hayley.
Where do we even start with this one? ‘somewhere between the sand and the stardust’ is quite possibly one of the most earnest and endearing releases of 2023. And yes, we would stand in front of a court of Kiyoko stans and testify that! This song is for a dear friend of Hayley’s that lost their battle with mental health recently. Losing someone you love to an illness that you’ll never fully understand is…complicated to say the very least.
It’s been difficult to balance my grief while also knowing that he is finally at peace. I wrote ‘somewhere between the sand and the stardust’ to remind those dealing with a loved one taking their own life that they are not alone – that all the complicated emotions they’re feeling are valid. We must continue to care for those struggling with mental health issues as well as the people they rely on for support. This song is a tribute to loving the people who choose to stay and embracing and finding peace with the memory of those who don’t.

It’s amazing to see this softer side of Hayley when she’s ready to share it with us. To say we feel honored doesn’t even begin to cut it. Her sultry vocals are absolutely charged with the intensity of the spectrum of emotions she depicts in the track. You have no choice but to feel it all with her. And as we said before, the honor is truly all ours. Her prior release, ‘Greenlight,’ is an upbeat dance-pop anthem to help you dance through what ‘somewhere between the sand and the stardust’ makes you start to re-process. You’re welcome!
