The weather is heating up, the sun is shining, and there’s tons of new music coming for you to add to your summer playlists. It’s been nearly a year since Sammy Wilk dropped music and we have a feeling his newest track ‘Red & Gold’ will 100% make it to your playlists this summer.
‘Red & Gold’ perfectly captures the “breezy” summer soundtrack you would expect going in. The video certainly drives the carefree summer vibes home too, full of vibrant shots of LA streets, the beach, and Sammy himself on the most aesthetic bike ride we’ve ever seen. If you take a closer look at the lyrics, though, you get a different story. It’s not the carefree summer bike-ride track you’d expect.
“I miss the autumn breeze when all the leaves would change
From red to gold
Where’d they go
And now it’s hard to see the beauty in the rain
Now that I’ve grown
The world got cold”
“And I been moving thru the seasons
Hoping to find my reason
Over this overthinking
My boat is been slowly sinking, I know
The world got cold, cold, cold”
The lyrics paint a different picture, one where we see that Sammy is trying to find his way back to who he used to be. The sound and visuals of ‘Red & Gold’ say summer but the lyrics have us visualizing autumn leaves and fighting to keep the cold out. This track is about finding your way back to yourself as the seasons change and life goes on.
You might be able to catch Sammy Wilk playing ‘Red & Gold’ live during Jack & Jack + Sammy Wilk: Live at The Peppermint Club on June 28th and 29th.
