The weekend all of us emos had been (im)patiently waiting for all year: When We Were Young Fest weekend. Naturally, you think we’d want to get a good night’s sleep before the festival of dreams; but when there’s a WWWYF sideshow with Plain White T’s, Bowling For Soup, Sum 41, and an 80s cover set afterward, you go.
Plus, all the proceeds from the Strange 80s sideshow benefitted Charity Bomb and Unite The United, so Ws all around. You know that THP always has you covered, so here’s a recap of our favorite moments where you can either reminisce or live vicariously through us.
Plain White T’s
Finally, it was ‘our time’ to see Plain White T’s again. When they played ‘Hey There Delilah,’ the whole room became one, as we sang the entire song by heart. Literal chills. Seeing them live got us even more hyped for their upcoming, self-titled album, which drops on November 17th.

Bowling For Soup
We still can’t believe that we got the privilege of seeing Bowling For Soup in the year 2023. Rest assured, they played “all the classics.” And some were even sped up but still sounded absolutely amazing. Oh, and there were also a few crowd surfers. Props to them!

Sum 41
It feels like I’m 15 again!
Now, it was towards the end of the night and we were all getting tired. But the moment Sum 41 got on stage, it was more powerful than an energy drink. Most of the crowd was also on the older side, but you’d never know from the crazy amount of energy in the room.
We were jumping up and down, singing at the top of our lungs. And there was even a circle pit. They didn’t play their new song, but we couldn’t be too mad since they played all of their most iconic songs, which made a lot of us feel like we were teenagers again /pos.

Cassadee Pope
At this point, we were running on adrenaline, but we had to stick around for the 80s cover set, considering it was the Strange 80s sideshow. Also, we had to see Cassadee Pope! One of the songs she performed was ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me),’ which we definitely haven’t! We were absolutely in awe of her incredible vocals and we’re so glad that she’s returning to the pop-punk scene!

We were definitely exhausted after and you bet that Ibuprofen was our best friend. But it was the ultimate way to kick off WWWYF weekend and we wouldn’t have “miss[ed] it for the world.”
