Happy Friday, Honeybees! This week, we’re bringing you a healthy dose of girl power. Some of the coolest girls in the industry right now — like Frex and JESSIA – are bringing us a mix of heartbreak, love, and raw vulnerability. From a crooning powerhouse like Nessa Barrett to Griff, our new favorite ballad Queen – this Fresh Music Friday is both romantic and a tearjerker.
‘Used To’ — Frex ft. Jordan Ward
We don’t think we’ve related to a lyric more than, “You bring me flowers, I run away. ‘Cause you feel too good and that don’t feel safe.” Speaking the the ones who are afraid when the going gets good, Frex has created a theme song for the overthinker. ‘Used To’ digs deep into the fear of showing too much too soon and not being treated well. Frex has a certified slow jam on her hands, and her smooth vocals? Now, that’s something we could get used to.

‘One Before The One’ — JESSIA
The pain of being strung along is never easy. It might even be worse to mourn for a love that never got the chance to fully flourish. In the ‘One Before The One,’ JESSIA paints the tragic reality of never being the one that wins in the end. With devastating lyrics like, “I’m having trouble getting past this. I’m only perfect if I’m practice,” JESSIA speaks to all of us who had to watch the person we wanted to be with be with someone else and question why we weren’t good enough.

‘Astronaut’ — Griff
Pardon the pun, but Griff has us over the moon for ‘Astronaut’ and we don’t wanna come down. Soft, sultry, and beautiful – this is one that you’ll want to have on repeat to either break your heart or remind yourself that you’re worth more than someone who wants to leave you behind. “When you realize there’s nothing out there but matter and emptiness and you let a good thing go,” takes us to the stars.

‘girl in new york’ — Nessa Barrett
With ‘girl in new york,’ Nessa tells the story of watching your lover give attention to someone else, despite the nicesties they throw your way. “You said I was yours. Maybe just on the West Coast,” proves that even the ones who promise to give you the world… may still have someone waiting for them when their plane finally lands.
