A whole year has flown by since Rina Sawayama dropped the album Hold The Girl. To mark this one-year anniversary, we’ve been graced with Hold The Girl: Bonus Edition. It really feels like Christmas has come early. In the midst of this year, Rina has truly been on a roll. She’s been tackling down villains in John Wick: Chapter 4 and performing for fans during her Hold The Girl: Reloaded tour. Her latest tour saw Rina re-design the Hold The Girl Tour and take it to a whole new level. Plus, she’s been making waves in the K-Pop scene, featuring on LE SSERAFIM’s track ‘Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeards Wife.‘ Now, with two fresh new tracks on the table, it got us thinking about how we’d imagine them on the stage.
‘Imagining’ Featuring Amaarae
The first new track features Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and a party anthem all in one. Also, it features some seriously interesting beat switch-ups in the second verse that’ll leave you in awe. Despite the fast-paced song, the lyrics dive into the theme of losing touch with reality and paint the picture of daily struggles. So, for the stage, it would be iconic if it featured some neon lights and lots of jumping from the fans. What would top this performance would be if Rina surprised fans and turned up in seated sections or those further back. The fans would truly wonder what is happening, and it would make for a really fun segment of the show.
‘Flavour Of The Month’
This song delves into the electric Y2K vibes that are incredibly fun. The lyrics paint a bubbly picture with mentions of “mint-chocolate” and “scoops of bubblegum.” But we need to talk about visuals for this lively track. We can picture Rina rocking a bold, colorful outfit. An avante-garde ensemble for this song would totally steal the show. And, since we all know Rina can dance, why not throw in some fun choreography? To wrap this stage up, we’re dreaming of Rina handing the mic to a lucky fan as they belt out the final verse together, taking a line each: “I came to be delicious, my tendency is vicious.”
A year may have passed, but every single day, we are streaming Hold The Girl. And now, the bonus edition gives us two new songs and one exciting collaboration to enjoy.
