Rina Sawayama just keeps giving us more, more, and more. Rina just dropped her new performance of ‘This Hell‘ as a part of her Vevo Studio Live Performance series. We’re still trying to get over how amazing her Vevo Performance of ‘Hold The Girl’ and ‘Hurricanes!’ But we’re definitely not complaining. Instead, we are freaking out over how amazing this performance is.
All three of these songs are off of Rina’s new album Hold The Girl that we finally got our hands on September 16th. This album is a beautiful evolution from Rina’s last album, SAWAYAMA, which you guys already know was one of our favorites of 2020. Hold The Girl is showing us a whole new personal side of Rina that we’re beyond excited to get to know.
In conversation about the track, Rina said, “The past couple of years, I’ve been listening to lots of female country singers and wanted to write a euphoric and tongue-in-cheek country pop song.” (…) “It’s an important song for me given the human rights that are being taken away from minorities at a rapid rate in the name of traditional religious beliefs. More specifically, I was thinking about the rights being taken away from the LGBTQ community when I wrote this song. When the world tells us we don’t deserve love and protection, we have no choice but to give love and protection to each other.” We could write an entire novel about why we love Rina even more than we already did for what this track, performance, and album stand for.
Slay, Slay, Another Slay
We can count on Rina for a lot of things. Obviously, a god-tier album is one of those things. Another one is live performances beyond worth talking about. Obviously, that’s literally why we’re here in the first place. So if you’re lucky enough to find yourself in the same spot as Rina this upcoming fall/winter, you deserve to treat yourself to one of her legendary performances.
