This year’s daylight savings time is bringing with it two gifts: an extra hour of sunlight, and a new EP from indie-rock band Florence Road. If you’re thinking, “but daylight savings time already happened,” you would be correct. However, with a little bit of patience, you can celebrate the return of spring with Florence Road’s new EP on March 27. And until then, you can enjoy their newest single ‘Rabbits Can Swim,’ out now!
If you’re looking for a fresh sound that blends what you love about artists like The Cranberries and Wolf Alice, Florence Road is for you. With daring riffs, a distinct voice, and a spot on tour with The Last Dinner Party, we can already tell 2026 is going to be huge for them. And if that doesn’t convince you, maybe their past supporting roles on tour with Olivia Rodrigo, Wallows, and Royel Otis will. We bet some of you have seen them before without even knowing it.
Either way, now is your chance to catch up on all things Florence Road. After all, it’s still early. With last year’s show stopping debut EP Fall Back, it’s hard to believe they’re just starting out. But longtime friends Lily Aron (vocals), Emma Brandon (guitar), Ailbhe Barry (bass) and Hannah Kelly (drums) have been refining their sound since high school. Needless to say, it’s paid off. Between the cheeky angst of songs like ‘Goodnight’ and ‘Figure It Out’ and the softer reflection in ‘Caterpillar,’ Florence Road has it all. And as we wait for the appropriately named followup, let’s go through each song we have so far.
‘Miss’
‘Miss’ shows off both their vulnerability and heavy sound. They’re not afraid to get loud, and they’re not afraid to be emotional. And it’s their unique approach to the angst of rock and roll that makes them so successful. We’ve never heard anything like this raw, guitar-heavy take on missing someone long after you think the pain should’ve gone away.
‘Rabbits Can Swim’
Florence Road’s most recent release ‘Rabbits Can Swim’ presents a quieter side of themselves. This piano ballad addresses a desire for a simple love. Of course, it isn’t always as simple as we want it to be, but it’s nice to listen to four minutes of sweet melodies and pretend.
‘Storm Warnings’
One of the standout songs in Florence Road’s discography, ‘Storm Warnings’ paints a picture of what can happen when you let your desire for love blind you. The unfortunate result might be, like in this song, that you end up wondering where things went wrong, or if they’ve always been that way. As if the lyrics weren’t enough, the swirl of discordant sounds make us feel like we’re caught in a tornado. There’s no way out in the song, or in the relationship.
Ahead of the EP’s release next week, we’ve already gotten three out of the four songs. If you couldn’t tell, we couldn’t be happier with them. And we’d love if you would join us in the countdown for the last song, ‘Hanging Out To Dry.’ As we wait, we can talk about all things Florence Road- your favorite song, whether they’re coming to a city near you with The Last Dinner Party, or anything else on your mind- at @thehoneypop on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
