It’s very rough to feel invalidated by yourself. Stopping yourself from thinking you’re not enough is easier said than done. Sometimes, you just want to detach yourself from your head, but, at the end of the day, that’s not possible, and you’re still living in the same being that you hate. If you haven’t fallen in love with Ashley’s songwriting yet, the first stanza of ‘Girl In The Mirror’ will make you say “wow” out loud.
“Mistakes, she’s tallying ’em up, no shame in saying I do nothing right”
Overstressing about everything that you do can be a habit that’s hard to break, and that could lead you to think that you’re never enough. We’re so grateful that Ashley has shown us her most raw vulnerability with this song, and this verse gives us goosebumps. We’ve definitely counted all the mistakes we’ve made in a single day after analyzing our rough days!
“Now I’m running through the house and I’m breaking all the glass”
We thought Ashley was a genius for this lyric! Since this song is all about leaving the girl in the mirror behind, she tries to picture that desire to escape her by breaking all the glass around her. That way, she can run away from herself (if she’s lucky). We thought this verse was heartbreaking but also incredibly descriptive and relatable. Including this song in the final portion of the single is a complete 10/10!
