Kali Uchis is well known for releasing endless bangers, from one of her more famous hits ‘Melting’ from Por Vida, to ‘Moonlight’ from her last album. And now, y’all, we have, in our opinion, Orquídeas, one of her best albums to date. If you say otherwise, you’re wrong…just kidding. We still love you.
Orquídeas
This stunning album has 14 amazing tracks that we couldn’t get enough of. We thought Kali Uchis had pulled out all the stops in the last album, but we were gladly wrong because Orquídeas is simply on another level. From start to finish, it was a no-skip album that had us saying, “This is my favorite track, wait no, this is my favorite track” every time another track started *cough* *cough* ‘Pensamientos Intrusivos,’ and ‘Diosa.’ It also kept us dancing throughout it, and we know you’ll be dancing too because this is a celebratory album. Kali announced her pregnancy alongside the release, and we couldn’t be happier for her. She also brought fresh energy to the album that makes you want to stop and smell the roses and party a little.
With this author being Latinx, the album being a Spanish album was a plus and really made us happy heading into the remainder of 2024. It also has been our favorite Spanish album with some of our favorite Spanish tracks that we have heard in a while. Kali wanted to change how people viewed Latinas in music; we believe she truly did that wholeheartedly.
I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful, and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to redefine the way we look at Latinas in music.
