Two incredibly talented indie musicians, Caroline Polachek and Weyes Blood, merge their powerful, otherworldly voices on a new version of ‘Butterfly Net.’ These two artists are masterminds of immersing listeners in their music. They take people into another dimension through their vocals, lyricism, and the production of their songs. Their approach is no different on ‘Butterfly Net.’ This version of the song is a reflection of beautiful artistry. And one that is a worthwhile 5-minute ethereal trip on its own.

Get Comfortably Lost On The Island Of The Indie Pop Duo

‘Butterfly Net’ is an emotional metaphor for how we tend to desperately claw, grasp, or hold on to mere crumbs or wisping remains of someone we cling to during and after heartache. As much as we all like to wash our hands clean of past relationships, there are traces of each person caught in our butterfly nets. Whether we wanted to have those traces or not, we all still, at the beginning, intentionally kept some form of another after we parted ways.

The two singers effortlessly take us on their journey of seeking comfort in the ache. The harmonization serves as a reflection of two voices throughout ‘Butterfly Net.’ Mirroring the inner voice meets the external voice in how the story unfolds. It could be the conscious verging with the subconscious, making sense of what’s happening. We’ve all been there, the crying in-the-mirror moment with a brief clarity before it starts again. Now it’s elegantly depicted in an indie pop ballad tune.

I collected, stupid ashes / So that after you’d gone, I could hold onto something

It all starts with Weyes Blood and her majestic voice charming the listener. She immediately immerses them into the piece, locking them in to get lost in the heavenly song. ‘Butterfly Net’ is in fact, meant for you to feel everything they’re singing. Weyes and Caroline create gorgeous harmonies and add depth that swells the song to another level. ‘Butterfly Net’ is a run through the fields of anguish seeking to “capture” the light of their lost lover.
