Welcome to The Honey POP, Ella! So thrilled to have you here! To start us off, how would you describe your sound to new listeners?
Thanks, I’m so excited to be here! I would say my sound is bittersweet melancholic, but quite powerful and empowering as well.

We know artists grow with every new release. What would you say was different for you between your debut EP, the youth, emotions and everything in between, and your latest, Younger
Even though my debut EP the youth, emotions and everything in between was very personal, and about my experience as a teenager, I would say that this one, Younger, is even more personal. I’ve been through my first heartbreak, grown and learnt more about myself since my debut, which is reflected in Younger. The red thread in both of them is talking about my teenage years, and what teenagers can go through. It’s sometimes a difficult period, you’re going through most things for the first time, whilst trying to figure out who you are, what you wanna be, etc. I think it’s important to talk about that – life can be difficult, but no one is alone.

Where would you say you draw your inspiration from?
Most inspiration comes from my everyday life. I’m also very inspired by other artists that I look up to, like Zara Larsson and Nessa Barrett. Even though we don’t sound the same, I’m inspired by other young creatives.

At such a young age, you already have major performances behind you. Tell us how it felt, stepping on those stages and showing your incredible voice to a Live audience. Do you have a favorite appearance among them?
It felt magical to be able to do it for the first time. I’ve always been very shy and I’d never let anyone hear me sing before. When we recorded the video for ‘For A Better Day’ on top of the Avicii Arena, that was the first time I sang in front of others. And to know that the whole world would be able to hear me when it was released was nerve-wracking. I would say that performing ‘For A Better Day’ at the Avicii Arena in front of thousands of people, joined by my idol Zara Larsson tops all my performances. However, I was just in Davos for the World Economic Forum and performed at a few different events, which was also so so fun!

Do you have a dream performance that you imagine one day doing?
I would love to tour around the world! The size of the venues doesn’t really matter, I just want to meet fans from all over the world and show the world my music.

We are in love with all the songs on Younger! Do you have a favorite track from it? What about a favorite lyric?
I would say my first single from it, ‘Again and Again’, is my favorite. It’s quite catchy and a bit more uptempo, which I want to do more of in the future.  My favorite lyric is from ‘Younger’ – “People talk, that’s what they do…”. I think it’s a good reminder that whatever you do someone will always have opinions about it, so just try to not care about them and focus on yourself.

Speaking of your songs, what title would you recommend to someone who wants to get into your music?
‘Again and Again’ – it can be hard to pursue a career in music, it’s very competitive and sometimes feels hard, but you just need to continue again and again and one day you’ll get there.

As an artist, what message do you want to relay to listeners?
I want my listeners to feel like they’re not alone. Someone might go through a heartbreak, someone might be struggling with growing up or finding themselves, someone might be in a struggling relationship, etc. Everyone goes through different stages, it’s a process of life and you’re not alone!

Is there a story you want to deliver through your music? Or a sound you want to experiment with in the future?
I want to continue to deliver my own personal stories, my music will probably always reflect the stages I’m in at my life at that moment. Sound-wise, I want to explore more uptempo pop.

Aside from music, we hear you’ll star in the upcoming movie about the Swedish pop band Gyllene Tider. Congratulations on that! Can you tell us what kind of an experience that was: the emotions that you went through when you got the role, and while filming?
Thanks! It was so exciting but also very shocking. I went to the first audition really confident I would never get the role, since I had no experience of acting since before. Me and my team just saw it as a fun thing to try and a good challenge. So when I got the call that I’d got the role I was in shock and a bit scared, but of course so happy. The process of filming and getting into the role was very exciting. I had to learn a lot about Marie Fredriksson, who I’m playing. She’s such a legend and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to portray her.

To finish this lovely talk, will you share some of your plans or goals for the year?
This year I want to perform more live. I’m still in high school so it’s been tough getting time to play and tour. But it’s something I really love and will focus more on now. Also, I’m in the studio recording new music. I want to release more music and let the listeners have a chance to get to know me more.
