Hello! Welcome to the Honey POP and thanks for talking to us. For those not familiar with your music, if you had to describe yourself in one word (hard, we know,) what would it be?
Conversational!

Growing up, who were some of your musical influences? How have they inspired your current work, style, or sound?
I grew up absolutely loving Miley Cyrus and feeling very inspired by her. Now, I find myself inspired by artists like Julia Michaels, Reneé Rapp, and P!NK.

Before we get into the serious stuff, we like to include a silly question. It’s been almost a year since you released your single, ‘He’s A 10,’ and we’d like you to give us an updated one! So, finish the line: He’s a 10, but…
He’s still clueless that “He’s A 10” was written about him…

JESSIA On ‘I’m not Pretty’

Now, we have to talk about your single, ‘I’m not Pretty,’ because of the incredible impact it’s made—not just on the charts but for anyone who may struggle with their self-image. What was it like creating such a vulnerable track, and how has it felt to see the song have such a positive response?
The response to “I’m not Pretty” has been incredible. I still read comments and hear stories of how “I’m not Pretty” has helped them. I’m so glad that I have been able to help people look in the mirror and not pick themselves apart and accept who they are.

‘I’m not Pretty’

The reason I make music is to help people feel more seen and to accept themselves more.

Following that, what is your best advice for promoting self-love within yourself that you can share with our readers?
I think that knowing self love is a practice and recognizing the patterns when you feel lost and off track. I like to remember where I was or what I was doing when I felt most confident and then take baby steps to get back to that place. We all fall off track and let the negative thoughts creep back in sometimes but being kind and patient in those moments is key. I think accepting where you are at in your journey is true self-love.

Advice From JESSIA

Since that release in 2021, you’ve continued to release other incredible tracks like ‘Serotonin’ and ‘One Before The One.’ How do you feel you’ve grown as an artist since then? Do you feel the success and virality have pushed you to continue creating better and better art?
“I’m not Pretty” completely changed my life and allowed me to have a successful artist career. I am always pushing myself to be more honest with myself in my lyrics. I always want to outdo myself and see what else I have to say. I’m so thankful to my fans for supporting me while I discover my sound. I am SO excited about the new music I am releasing this year!!

Many fans enjoy being able to connect with their fans on platforms like Twitter or TikTok and oftentimes discover new artists to love. Do you feel that social media has aided you and your journey as an artist? Do you feel it’s helped to open doors for you to new listeners?
Completely! Social media is where I’m able to connect directly with my old and new fans! It’s so cool that we live in a time where fans from all over the world can see me every day.

‘Care About Me’

I wrote it while I was in Asia on tour and it is all about watching a relationship lose its spark. It was one of those songs that felt like a relief to write. I’m so happy it has given so many people a safe space to scream this song at the top of their lungs!

JESSIA on writing ‘Care About Me’

As a songwriter, you tap into many vulnerable emotions. Does it ever make you nervous to share that with the world? Were there any songs in your discography that were particularly difficult to write?
I get nervous before every release, haha, and I don’t think that will ever change. I think the most difficult song I’ve written was ‘Next Time,’ but I think that’s why it’s one of my faves.

Following this release, what else can we expect from you in 2024?
SOOOOO much music!! ‘Care About Me’ is just the beginning of a new project I am really excited about.
