Interview: We’re Not Afraid To Get ‘Loud’ Over The Home Team’s New Music

If there’s one thing about The Home Team, it’s that they’re known for putting out nothing but bangers. ‘Loud?’ Banger. ‘Brag? Banger. ‘Hell?’ Take a wild guess. So with that being said, we’re absolutely stoked to have an exclusive interview with The Home Team! We had the opportunity to chat with their lead singer, Brian Butcher! We talk all about their new music and more. So let’s jump right in!

Hello and welcome to The Honey POP, we’re huge fans! Can you introduce
yourselves to our readers who might be discovering you for the first time?

Howdy! My name is Brian and I sing for The Home Team! We consider the music we make to be “heavy pop,”we’ve been a band since 2015, and we’re from Seattle.

We have been completely obsessed with all the singles you’ve dropped recently, including ‘Hell.’ Not only do the songs sound amazing, but we love all the music videos too. How did the ‘Hell’ music video concept come about?
Our guitarist John thought of the idea for the hell music video a few months back when we were in the UK! We’ve had the idea to do an animated video for a long time, but having it involve multiple different artists meant that not only did we not have to decide on one specific style, but that we could most likely complete it in a timely manner since the artists would all be able to work on it simultaneously. We’re honestly really excited how well doing multiple artists panned out for the style of the video.

Since the ‘Hell’ mv is giving nostalgic video game visuals, what nostalgic video
games do you love?

I played Halo a lot as a kid, but I’ve also had a close connection with all the Zelda games! Animal Crossing was another one that I’ve been playing since then.

Sonically, ‘Hell’ takes a different direction than ‘Loud’ and ‘Brag. Was creating a song with that sound an intentional process or did it sort of just happen as you
went along?

It kind of just happened! We were at the end of the writing process and John had kind of a curveball idea, but then he and our producer for the album Zach took it to a whole different level when they were writing together. We were honestly hesitant to put it as a single because of how different it is, but we’re always down to try anything and glad we did.

What were your reactions to hearing ‘Loud’ played during a Seattle Kraken game? What are some other places you’d love to have your music featured one day?
We were especially stoked to know that ‘Loud’ specifically was playing at the Kraken games, the tag of “don’t be afraid to get loud” is such a perfect line to add hype to the games!! Beyond that though, it was obviously really cool to see that in our hometown arena. Eventually I think it’d be awesome to have a song in a video game!

You guys did a lot of touring in 2023, what were some of your favorite places to
play or favorite/craziest tour memories?

Some of the cities that showed us a ton of love in 2023 are Baltimore, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Honestly seeing some of the turnouts on our headliner was probably some of the craziest moments we’ve ever experienced in our lives. And then, getting the opportunity to co-headline with one of our favorite bands ever was also a huge moment for us!

Speaking of touring, Brian, what was it like getting to do vocals with Issues on
their last run of shows?

It was insane, Issues has been a favorite band of mine for an extremely long time and to be welcomed on those stages by not only the band but the fans was really fulfilling. It’s huge to be able to take a step back and realize what a crazy experience that was.

We saw you chime in on the joke about how often our faves Real Friends and
Knuckle Puck tour together. Besides Honey Revenge, who are a given (and we
love to see it), what other bands would you love to be known for touring with?

Definitely Broadside, we’ve toured with them twice now and constantly joke about going out with them again haha. I’m sure it will happen again in the future.

Can you spill the beans on what we can expect from The Home Team in 2024? Any big milestones you guys are hoping to hit this year?
We’ve announced tons of tours and we will be releasing a new album! This is definitely going to be a big year for us, but we’re also looking forward to next year when we get to experience all the growth we expect to see! I can definitely assure you that we’re staying very very busy.
