There are few things we at THP love more than finding amazing new music, but one of those things is sharing it with you! The more fans, the merrier, right? So we’re bringing you the Hot In The Hive series, dedicated to sharing new music we know you’ll be buzzing about as much as we are. Let’s dive right into some of the sweetest new releases!
f5ve – ‘Underground’
After serving us a refreshing bop with ‘Lettuce’ back in May, f5ve (pronounced “fi-vee”) have officially made their comeback with ‘Underground!’ SAYAKA, KAEDE, MIYUU, RURI, and RUI are five of the most talented women in J-Pop, so we were ecstatic to hear about their new release. And let us tell you, honeybees, it was so worth the wait! If you’ve had Charli XCX’s brat in your constant rotation this summer, you’ll absolutely fall in love with this song. ‘Underground’ is an electrifying celebration of Japan’s nightlife and the vibrant personalities who take part in it. Just one listen will have you dancing around your room and becoming a hi-5!
We are so unbelievably excited to be sharing this new MV for ‘Underground’ with the world. It showcases a different side of Japan, a side that many people from the outside don’t get to see. Amongst the intense and strict working conditions is also a thriving subculture, hopefully you will love it like we do!! This is our first all-Japanese lyric single, we wanted to be authentic with this release. Please continue to support us, it means the world to us!!! ありがとうございます!

Lillian Hepler – ‘Famous’
Okay, we need everyone reading this to band together with us and make sure Lillian Hepler becomes as ‘Famous’ as she and her music deserve. Her new song, ‘Famous,’ reflects on the most painful parts of a breakup while refusing to let them define her story. Instead, she focuses on making a total bop about her ex without mentioning their name or any super characteristic details so they don’t get to benefit from her heartbreak. It’s an ode to moving on and moving up that will encourage you to channel your energy into your dreams post-breakup! You’ll be rooting for Lillian the whole time, just as she’s rooting for you.
This song was born out of frustration as to how a lot of relationships tend to go these days. You meet someone, plan a future together, and then all hell breaks loose, they betray you, and you’re left watching this person move on without you. It feels like you’re always the bad guy and that they never have to face the consequences for the things they’ve said and done. But, the best revenge is actually just moving on and never having their name come out of your mouth again. People can only take credit if you give it to them, and I don’t like giving people who have hurt me the satisfaction of that. Instead, I just pretend they never existed.

Oliver Cronin – ‘In The End’
‘In The End,’ it’s just us and our love for Oliver Cronin against the world. And we know you’ll love ‘In The End’ as much as we do! This is the song for you if you’ve hit a bit of a slump in the middle of the dog days of summer, and need a quick pick-me-up to add to your playlist. “I know it might feel hard, but you’ll see for yourself,” Oliver insists, encouraging every listener to hold onto their hope until a brighter day comes along. It’s full of love and care, reminding you why Oliver is a rising star you need to start listening to sooner rather than later! We know this is far from the end of the amazing catalog he has to offer, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
Earlier this year I went on a two month trip around the world to showcase my music. When I came home I found myself reminiscing on times where I was broken, times I hit rock bottom, times I thought my career was over. If I’ve learnt one thing, it’s that no matter how bad it gets – it will always get better in the end… I wanted to write a song that represents the light at the end of the tunnel, a healing anthem, if you will.

Sueco – ‘Outta My Head’
Okay, a little warning for this track: once you listen to Sueco’s newest release, you won’t be able to get it outta your head. But that’s not really a problem when it’s a song as riveting as ‘Outta My Head,’ a dynamic look at unhealthy relationships and how they affect our mindset. We love how the song fluctuates between calmer, piano-driven sections and electrifying guitar riffs topped with some of the most emotive vocals we’ve heard all year. His new album, Attempted Lover, comes out on Friday, so it’s the perfect time to become a proper Sueco fan! And we’ll be right there with you, buzzing until we get our chance to listen.

Wafia – ‘Crystal Ball’
If you could know what lies in your future, whether it’s about a relationship, a dream, or just your future in general, would you want to find out? Or would knowing the end take away from the joy and exploration of a new adventure? That’s what Wafia explores on the alt-pop anthem ‘Crystal Ball,’ featuring executive production from Sabrina Claudio. From start to finish, this song is beautifully human and creative, constantly making us question why Wafia isn’t one of the biggest pop stars in the world. We’ve heard so many songs over the years about endings and wishing we could know about what happens down the road, but ‘Crystal Ball’ offers a thought-provoking alternative, encouraging us to enjoy every good day we have without stressing about whether that joy will last.
If I could look into the future, I would choose not to. I’m in love with this moment. Sabrina heard the potential of what ‘Crystal Ball’ could be from the demo very early on, and was like, ‘You have to go back to the studio,’ so we went back in and just got a little bit weird with it. ‘Let’s just have fun and make it super dreamy.’ I love it now.
