Buckle up, Honeys, we have another fun one for you! We got the chance to interview the country Queer sensation Adam Mac again, and it was incredible! We got to talk about his latest funky single, ‘Dust Off Your Boots,’ while grooving hard to the track. He also shared some interesting, fun facts about himself, and, spoiler alert, he shared about a favorite piece of clothing with us. Want to know which one? Welcome back to The Honey POP, Adam! So excited that we get to speak with you again. With a new release out, how would you introduce it to our readers?
It is the funky tonk ho-down you didn’t know you needed!!
We’re obsessed with ‘Dust Off Your Boots’ and its bright atmosphere. How did this track come to life, what were the first sparks that created it?
I was in LA when I wrote it, it was actually my first time ever writing out there. With some friends of mine, Sonia Leigh and Jason Mater, and we just knew we wanted to write sometime with a groovy bass and banjo, that would get people line dancing!
The music video matches the lively vibe of the song. What was the most memorable scene you shot for ‘Dust Off Your Boots?’ Any TMI you feel like sharing with us and our readers?
My favorite part of the video was the talent show scene where I show off my best effort at doing choreography!! Haha honestly I had only one day to learn the routine and do it in heels! Thankfully I was surrounded by professionals who made me look and feel so good!!
This is the perfect summer song to get on that dance floor and own it. And in relation to the title, do you have a favorite pair of boots for dancing?
I have a patent leather high-heel go-go boot that is my old reliable, but I just got a new blue sparkly pair of platforms that might be my new fav!
Speaking of summer, we hear you’ve been busy. With already a handful of schedules, we are certain that each one is leaving its own memories and impressions on you. How do you feel about your performances and what was the vibe at the ones that had already passed?
Omg I was on the main stage at Nashville Pride and honestly, it was my favorite show I’ve ever had. We had a huge crowd of people screaming my songs back to me, and that was a really insane thing to witness.
The theme for ‘Dust Off Your Boots’ music video is camp. Have you attended a camp as a kid? What were, or would be, the activities that you find most intriguing to do at a campsite?
Oh, I definitely was a camp kid and now I’m a very extra “camp” adult, haha! I was all about the outdoor activities and talent shows obviously. That’s what I tried to bring into the video, to give it the nostalgia I get when I think about summer camp.
We hear you have opened for Maren Morris. How did it feel to be an opening act? What other artists would you like to share a stage with?
She was amazing in every way. A true professional and lovely human being. I would love to open for Chappell Roan, I know she’s a pop star but I’m obsessed with her and would loooove to tour with her!
Recommendation time! Your music has a versatile color and we think there’s a little something for everyone. What 3 songs of yours would you recommend for new (and even old) listeners to check out? Any special reason?
Oh lord, I don’t know. I guess if you want the overall Adam Mac fun experience go ‘Dust Off Your Boots,’ ‘Disco Cowboy’ and then ‘The One That Got Away’ if you need a moment to get emosh.
We know milestones keep coming as life goes on. Up until now, what would you consider one of your biggest achievements?
I think my biggest achievement has been putting out an unabashedly queer country album. Where I, for the first time, put out songs that didn’t try to mask my queerness but celebrated it. I love how it relates to being raised in the South and what those stories sound like.
To wrap us up, can you share some of your plans for the rest of the year? Can we expect more music or Live stages in the following months?
Writing tons of new music and working on my next album. ‘Dust Off Your Boots’ is just a taste of what’s to come!!
