Planning The Heists
We love a good heist, especially when we don’t know how it’ll end! Celeste and Magnus’s first assignment requires them to intercept a Fabergé egg before it gets to the Kadriorg Museum in Estonia. We worried there would be a surprise betrayal, so we couldn’t trust everyone involved. Which leads to their next heist, where they need to steal Queen Freya’s jewels (again). They had this job five years ago, and it ended with the jewels lost, Celeste almost dying, and Magnus leaving the team. We enjoyed reading the flashbacks as well as the quick planning it took for this mission to be successful.
The Supporting Characters
Speaking of making a mission successful, we can’t forget the loveable supporting cast of Jewel Me Twice! Celeste’s protégé, Beatrice, joins the team as a hacker. It’s largely thanks to her controlling surveillance videos and traffic lights that their first job finished without any suspicion. We also loved her budding romance with the smooth-talking getaway driver, Santiago. And Lawrence, Doris’s lifelong friend and partner in crime, has been the backbone of this high-stakes treasure hunt. He handles the gadgets and weapons and is almost always the voice of reason.
And Yes, It’s Spicy!
Another one of our main reasons for loving Jewel Me Twice is the palpable sexual tension between Celeste and Magnus. Their flirting and banter alone had us giggling and kicking our feet. Magnus knows how to push Celeste’s buttons, and vice versa. They must disguise themselves as a married couple multiple times on their assignment, and they play their roles especially well. Magnus isn’t shy about his attraction to Celeste, and we love seeing Celeste lower her guard more and more. We get a healthy dose of spice throughout this book, so buckle in for Celeste and Magnus’s will-they-won’t-they relationship!
Several edge-of-your-seat heists paired with a push-pull romance makes Charish Reid’s Jewel Me Twice an addictive, tension-filled novel that we couldn’t stop reading!
