It’s no secret at this point that we are ROSIE fans! We are in constant awe of the writing on display in each song we hear from her, and that is perfectly shown in her newest track, ‘Big Heart.’ We immediately felt a kinship to ‘Big Heart’, like it was ripped straight from our diaries. We knew as soon as we heard the track that we had to chat with ROSIE all about it!

Hi ROSIE! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! To start us off, how would you describe the music you make to someone who is listening for the first time?
I would describe my music as emotional and vulnerable folky pop!
‘Big Heart’ is out now! What emotions do you feel leading up to releasing a song that packs such an emotional punch?
It’s always nerve-racking releasing a song. It’s like putting your diary on display for anyone to read. But with this specific release, I also felt excitement because I think it’s important that all my big-hearted people out there feel seen and understood, and that is the purpose of ‘Big Heart.’
When crafting ‘Big Heart,’ we made some connections to your last track, ‘Rock Bottom.’ With ‘Big Heart,’ it feels like a letter to a partner after you’ve gone through a situation you’d describe as ‘Rock Bottom’ and are building yourself back up. Is there a tie between the two for you?
Yes! Both ‘Rock Bottom’ and ‘Big Heart’ are about my fears and how I’ve been learning to confront and overcome them. This throughline is present not only in these last two songs but is also the theme of my entire upcoming project.
And speaking of ‘Rock Bottom,’ we have been beyond obsessed with it since its release! What has it been like getting to see the life that track has taken on?
It has truly been an honor to watch people resonate with this song, especially because it is a really vulnerable one for me. I think when I’m writing songs, part of me is always coming from a place of feeling alone in whatever emotion I’m experiencing, and so to watch others relate really heals me in more ways than my listeners will ever know.
When crafting ‘Big Heart,’ could you immediately imagine visuals to go along with the track? And if so, what does that look like in your head?
For me, visuals usually come last. When I wrote ‘Big Heart,’ I wasn’t thinking much about what it looked like visually. I was more thinking about how it made me feel, and how it would make my listeners feel. That is the most important first step in my creative process.
‘Big Heart’ comes from a place that is going to be so relatable to so many people. Was this track born from an active situation you were experiencing? Or was it looking back at the past and reflecting?
‘Big Heart’ is a very accurate depiction of who I am and who I’ve always been. It was equally me writing about an active situation as much as it was me looking back on the past. Being honest is really scary sometimes and I wanted to put that in a song.
Are we looking at part of a bigger project with ‘Big Heart,’ or is this a stand-alone track?
Yes, ‘Big Heart’ is part of an upcoming project about confronting and overcoming fears. I have never felt so proud of a body of work and I’m so excited for the world to hear it soon.
Your 20mg of Happiness EP was released three years ago. When you look back at the artist you were then and compare her to the artist you are now, what do you see as your biggest area of growth?
Over the last three years, I have really worked hard on learning to be confident. Confidence is something I’ve lacked my whole life and when I think back on 21-year-old ROSIE releasing 20mg of Happiness versus 24-year-old ROSIE releasing this upcoming project, I’m just so proud that the hard work is paying off. Whether it’s sonically, lyrically, visually, production, or songwriting, I see so much more confidence and I think listeners will too when they finally hear this next project.

Fans have so much to look forward to as we close out this year. I am going on tour with David Kushner starting September 9th, I have more new music coming, and I may or may not have a few more features coming down the pipeline, so keep an eye out!
