If you’re anything like us here at The Honey Pop, you know just how good the music coming out now is. And some of the standout releases have been from women, which is a trend that we’re obsessed with. Because we know how many good songs are coming out right now, we also know how difficult it can be to keep up. And because we love our readers (and of course, these artists), we’ve decided to compile some of our favorite women in the pop sphere right now. From Erin LeCount’s alt-pop to EMiDORA’s electro-pop, we tried to cover as many angles of pop as possible. So take a look! We’re confident you’ll find something you love.
PAREIDOLIA – Erin LeCount
Defined as “the tendency to perceive meaningful connections between unrelated things or ideas,” PAREIDOLIA attempts to make sense of a warped perception of reality. By now, it should come as no surprise that we love everything Erin LeCount puts out. But even we were surprised by how much the last two songs tied everything together. In perhaps her strongest release yet, ‘ALICE’ depicts a desperate attempt to disentangle herself from a relationship that enables her deeply self-destructive habits. This EP is paranoia. It’s a downward spiral. And it’s clear that Erin put her entire heart into it. Between her intensely vulnerable lyrics and her experimental synth-pop sound, Erin has more than proven herself as once to watch.

‘aiming alone’ – Mel Denisse
Described as “alt rock meets shoegaze,” Mel Denisse is one you want to catch before she gets big. And now is the time to do it because she just put out her haunting new track, ‘aiming alone.’ Not only is it the perfect time to listen to her new song, but also her whole discography. It consists of four songs so far, and each one is dreamier than the last.
“‘aiming alone’ details wanting to be understood with urgency, while still feeling sealed off behind glass. On the other side, the world watches and speculates, close enough to see you, never close enough to meet you. That distance becomes the point: the two realities can’t be reconciled. The outro carries that into finality–an acceptance of the lone road, and the resolve of aiming alone.”

‘Art Gallery’ – Love You Later
We are all constantly evolving and learning. And we will never not love a song about it. The latest to put her own spin on it is alt-pop artist Love You Later with ‘Art Gallery.’ She explores the idea of self-discovery, which isn’t always pretty. She’s outgrown people and places, but it’s sure made a great song! The hope that pours from this song makes us excited for the future. At the very least, we’re excited to see where Love You Later goes from here.

‘Tommy’ – Emily James
After reminiscing on past summer loves in her latest EP, Summer Nostalgia, Emily James is expanding on her lore with her debut album of the same name, out May 29. In ‘Tommy,’ she explores the sad reality of a friends-to-lovers relationship. Or, we should say, yearning for a relationship that doesn’t end up working out. Ahead of her album release, she’s getting us ready for a good cry, while also getting us excited for the summer sun. If you believe that everything happens for a reason, then Emily James is for you. And if you love slow indie-pop with strong, heartfelt vocals, Emily James is definitely for you.

‘Ghosts Of Tennessee’ – Beatrix
If you liked Emily James but want something a little darker and a little more haunting, then check out Beatrix. Between the strings, the deep plunk of piano keys, and the strong imagery, we can practically see the haunted house and the full moon. Opening her upcoming release, We Swallowed The Sky, ‘Ghosts of Tennessee’ shows off both Beatrix’s classical music background and her incredible storytelling. It addresses the ghosts of a past relationship, not unlike Ethel Cain‘s ‘A House In Nebraska.’ And we know that convinced some of you. For those who need more convincing, all we can say is we know you’ve all felt something deeply before. So we guarantee Beatrix’s storytelling will speak to you.

‘Yellow Houses’ – Satya
Turning her pain into strength is Satya, who enters the singer-songwriter realm with a soul/R&B background. With ‘Yellow Houses,’ she tells the story of leaving home under difficult circumstances, and the effects that have stayed with her. The raw acoustic sound of ‘Yellow Houses’ allows her silky-smooth harmonies to shine through. Between the beauty and the pain of her song, Satya knows exactly how to tell a story. And you should be listening.

‘are you sure you wanna see this?’ – EMiDORA
Breathing life into a story about a one-sided friendship by setting it to an electro-pop beat is EMiDORA with her latest single. The result is a defiant acceptance of her own worth. Anyone who has ever dealt with a friendship like this knows the importance of realizing you don’t deserve it. From the freedom of that feeling comes EMiDORA’s distorted, unapologetic song about it. And if you love it, there’s more coming soon from EMiDORA.
