We have been loud and proud supporters of Jenna Raine ever since she went viral on TikTok for her heartbreakingly beautiful song, ‘see you later (ten years).’ Back then we had predicted big things for Jenna, and now, sitting here after this interview and listening to her newest track, ‘Roses,’ it’s clear we were correct! Between Jenna Raine’s honesty in her lyrics, her intentional visuals, and her soft vocals, she is quickly becoming a mainstay in the pop music world!
We were lucky enough to get to chat with Jenna Raine about all things ‘Roses,’ virality, and so much more!
Listen to ‘Roses’ here!
Hi Jenna! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! To kick us off, how would you describe who you are as an artist to someone who is tuning in for The first time?
I would describe myself as an artist that is trying to give people a breath of fresh air! If you need someone to help you look at life through a more positive perspective… I’m your girl!
‘Roses’ is your newest track! This song feels like such an empowering realization that things are okay and that people can’t tear you down once you’ve made that realization. For you, what does the track mean?
For me, ‘Roses’ is about being thankful for every single day. To live in the present. Don’t dwell on the things that happened yesterday and don’t worry about tomorrow…tomorrow can worry about itself! It’s also about not listening to negativity. People will definitely try to tear you down, but you have to be confident in who you are and just focus on all of your many blessings. Life is too short to let people drag you down.
And on a similar note, what has it been like seeing the fan’s reactions to the song? Seeing the meaning it has taken on for them?
It has been the sweetest thing in the whole entire world. The fact that people listen to my music on a daily basis absolutely blows my mind! Realizing my music can make an impact is what inspires me to keep songwriting. Hearing that my fan’s love ‘Roses’ and that it has helped them have a better day makes me so happy!
With ‘Roses,’ are we looking at a stand-alone song? Or is this part of a future bigger project?
Originally ‘Roses’ was going to be a stand-alone song, but I had a feeling it could lead to something really beautiful. I have been in the studio writing new music. I am very excited to say I’m currently working on a bigger project that includes ‘Roses!’
We saw on Instagram you teased filming something in what looked to be a field of flowers, could we possibly be getting a music video for ‘Roses’
Yes, we did make a music video! In the past I’ve done a ton of videos that are based around a plot. For the ‘Roses’ video I really wanted to capture the energy of the song. We got some girlies together and ran around a bunch of fields! We basically hung out for 12 hours and had the best time! Honestly, it was one of the easiest music video shoots I’ve ever done, and it really embraces the theme of ‘Roses’.
We know as a songwriter that there must be a lot of songs that don’t end up being released, how do you know when a song is going to be one that you see to total completion and put out into the world?
Songwriting is a lot of trial and error. You can tell after writing a song whether you get that tingly feeling or not! There’s an energy in the room when you write something special. When I listen to my demos I want to feel something. If I don’t feel something… it’s probably not seeing the light of day haha!
When crafting ‘Roses’ did you know what a serotonin boost it would be for so many people? Could you feel the energy of the track in the studio?
Oh 100%! The day that I wrote ‘Roses’ with Steph Jones and TMS we knew it was special. I had been trying for so long to write music that I knew would have a positive impact on people. (Writing positive music is a lot harder than writing sad music!) The day we wrote ‘Roses’ was absolutely iconic. Not only did we love it but we had a feeling it would help encourage people which was the most important thing.
Of course, we have to talk a bit about ‘see you later (ten years)’ This song was everywhere, and in fact, we still hear it on our TikTok all the time! What has it been like to watch the life that song has taken on?
It has been the most surreal experience ever. I wrote ‘see you later’ because I had challenged myself to write 100 songs in a year. I was planning on going to college and studying music, but at the end of the day I knew I wanted to be an artist. Every single night when I was writing songs I prayed that God would send an opportunity my way if it was His will for me. This song is a constant reminder that I am not my own! I thank Jesus everyday for helping me write ‘see you later’.
Once again thank you so much for your time, Jenna! Before we let you go, what is on the horizon as we close out 2024? What can fans look forward to?
Thank you so much for your time! I am so excited for the rest of 2024. I’m currently writing a bigger project but in the meantime… I haven’t said anything yet… but there may be an additional voice on ‘Roses’ very soon.
