Welcome Home, G-DRAGON! The King’s Back Like He Never Left With ‘Home Sweet Home’

VIPs, how are we feeling? The last day and a half has been a whirlwind of emotions for all of us here at THP. G-DRAGON, AKA the King of K-Pop, has made another triumphant return with his new pre-release (!!!) single, ‘Home Sweet Home,’ featuring Taeyang and Daesung.

Only three weeks after dropping the show-stopping ‘POWER,’ G-DRAGON has blessed our ears and playlists once again. And this time, ‘Home Sweet Home’ addresses the fans who have been waiting so patiently for his return.

Mark our words: ‘Home Sweet Home’ will end up in our top 10 Spotify Wrapped, if the last 12 hours of nonstop listening are any indication. We know you’re itching to debrief, so let’s talk about our favorite parts of G-DRAGON’s ‘Home Sweet Home!’ (But let’s be real; it’s every part.)

No Teasers. No Music Video. Just Trust.

Being a G-DRAGON fan is not for the weak. You have to be ready for anything at a moment’s notice. Like when his fan Instagram account announced ‘Home Sweet Home’ just yesterday. We didn’t know how it would sound or what kind of song it was. We just knew it was a new GD song, and that was plenty enough to get us hyped in less than 24 hours. Not to mention all the records he’s been breaking within the first day of the song release.

The Album Art

Can we also talk about the album art for ‘Home Sweet Home’ for a second? The original announcement only showed three white piano keys, with two black keys in between for the former Big Bang members. But that wasn’t all! Then the three piano keys were revealed to lead up to three houses, and we absolutely lost it. It’s such a genius idea, and only a G-DRAGON song could have this many layers in the art alone.

Our Favorite Lyrics

We’d break down each verse in ‘Home Sweet Home’ and write a thesis if we could. But we’ll pick out only a few of our favorite lyrics for brevity’s sake.

Verse 1

“It’s been a while since I sang an old song / I’m feeling like I never left”

While ‘POWER’ emanated G-DRAGON’s untouchable attitude and vibes, ‘Home Sweet Home’ embodies Big Bang from start to finish. Its dance-able melody paired with hard-hitting (and sometimes gut-wrenching) lyrics are what make it so reminiscent of a Big Bang song. Or as GD calls it: “an old song.” Anyone who’s listened to Big Bang at some point will take one listen to ‘Home Sweet Home’ and say, “GD is back. Big Bang is back.” But it’s starting to feel like they never really left.

Post-Chorus

“Well, I said I would be back / And I’d never let you go”

There aren’t enough words to express how much ‘Home Sweet Home means to us. And especially not for these lyrics in the post-chorus. Seven years of waiting feels like nothing when G-DRAGON is finally home now where he belongs. But we’d wait for him forever if he wanted. We don’t play about GD, and he doesn’t play about us either. His new album is bound to be life-changing, and we’ll be here replaying his discography until it drops.

Verse 3

“We alike dead or alive, your life? Still life / It’s so nice, I missed you a lot / You’re welcome back home, wherever you are”

Even though it’s been over two years since the last OT4 song released, the words “Still Life” still bring about a flood of emotions for us. These lyrics alone give us hope that as long as we have G-DRAGON, we will always have Big Bang. We’re all the same, trying to make it through life together and be the best people we can be. While Big Bang will continue on as three, we’ll still have ‘Still Life.’ (Not us crying in the club right now.)

Taeyang And Daesung’s Features

It’s the way we jumped out of our seats when Taeyang and Daesung came in at each pre-chorus and the bridge. Nothing can replicate the feeling of knowing Big Bang is back and stronger than ever. “Golden days are still alive,” and this track truly cements it. Their features in ‘Home Sweet Home’ fully healed our inner child. It’s so comforting to hear this trio sing together again.

Predicting The 2024 MAMA Awards

We’re hoping to get a live performance of ‘Home Sweet Home’ at the 2024 MAMA Awards In Japan this weekend. G-DRAGON, Taeyang, and Daesung would no doubt break the internet again. And imagine if G-DRAGON officially announced his album release date afterward. No more speculation or rumors needed. Help us manifest it, y’all!
