Rosé announced her first solo album last month, and we should’ve expected then and there that she would be overtaking everyone’s playlist. And she did. As the first taste of this massive release, Rosé collaborated with the one and only Bruno Mars to give us the already incredibly iconic ‘APT.’ To say this song has been everywhere is an understatement. It showed the most fun, unserious, catchy, and addictive side of Rosé’s music, but it didn’t show the other side of her album.
Since the release of ‘APT.,’ Rosé has been open about the fact that rosie touches on a toxic past relationship as well as other very vulnerable and emotional sides of her. In other words, we knew the sad, poignant, heartbreaking songs would start coming our way—and indeed, ‘number on girl’ is here. It’s the first track of the album, and it’s our number one song right now.

Rosé didn’t collaborate with Bruno Mars only once – he also has co-writing and co-producing credits for this song. Putting these two extraordinary minds and talents in a room together, of course, would get us one of the most fun and upbeat songs of the year and also one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful ballads. Rosé has that type of captivating and unique voice that makes all her songs have an instant impact. ‘number one girl’ is a ballad that has as its main focus Rosé vocals, the emotions that she brings to all the songs she touches, and the story she tells. It’s an extremely vulnerable song about insecurities, about craving outside validation to feel enough or have any worth. ‘number one girl’ shows her most genuine, human emotions despite always showing her best side for the world to see.
It’s an extremely brave thing to do to open her album with such a song. Yes, this new song is made to sing out loud to the top of your lungs. But also, yes, with those lyrics and the emotions her vocals convey, it feels incredibly personal and vulnerable. ‘number one girl’ showcases Rosé‘s unique and powerful vocals and her talent as a songwriter, and it’s a perfect reminder of why Rosé is such a captivating artist. This new single is also a big hint as to what we will get in her first-ever full-length solo album. With ‘APT.’ and ‘number one girl’ out for the world to hear, it’s already pretty clear rosie is sure to be one of the best albums of the year. December 6th couldn’t come here faster.
