There’s no denying that K-Pop is a global phenomenon! Fans from all over the world have fallen in love with idols, and the same can be said the other way round! We love when artists have a deep respect and admiration for each other, so of course, we love when our favorite K-Pop artists cover some of our favorite Western songs!
From TXT doing 5SOS, to BLACKPINK’s Rosé covering Halsey, to ATEEZ tackling Silk Sonic, these K-Pop idol covers are the stuff of dreams. We honestly think you guys must’ve manifested them into existence, because how can they just be this good? There are too many incredible covers, and if we mentioned all our faves we’d be here for days, but here are eleven of our favorite Western covers by K-Pop artists.
SHINee’s Key Covering Lizzo’s ‘Juice’
Not only is SHINee’s Key one of the best vocalists in the music industry, but he’s also one of the most iconic idols ever. Key is known for his flamboyant nature and sassy energy, so a Lizzo song is literally the perfect combination! We love that he doesn’t change the pronouns in his version, and we seriously need a Key/Lizzo collab ASAP!
TXT Covering 5SOS’ ‘Youngblood’
4th Gen It Boys TXT are known for their ability to fuse rock and pop-punk influences with other genres in their music, so who better for them to cover than 5SOS? And best of all, we have this live OT5 version and a studio version by Huening Kai.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé Covering Halsey’s ‘Eyes Closed’
When we said we love when faves cover other faves, could there be a better example than Rosé’s cover of ‘Eyes Closed?’ Here at THP, we stan both BLACKPINK and Halsey big time, and we’ll never get over how emotive Rosé’s vocals are here.
TWICE Covering Mark Ronson And Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk’
For our next top cover, we’re throwing it all the way back to 2016 KCON when TWICE covered Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk.’ Even though you basically couldn’t escape this song back in 2015 and 2016, we’d argue that this might be the most underrated cover on this list. Can we get a moment to talk about how good Jihyo’s vocals sound here?
NCT’s Jaehyun Covering Lauv’s ‘I Like Me Better’
We’re clearly not the only ones to think that Jaehyun’s cover of Lauv’s ‘I Like Me Better’ is elite tier, as the video has an impressive 84 million views. We’re obsessed with every part of this cover, from Jaehyun’s vocal delivery to all of the dreamy clips of Jaehyun exploring London and Paris.
ATEEZ Covering Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave The Door Open’
When you have a K-Pop group as cool and slick as ATEEZ, it makes perfect sense that they’d cover a Western song like Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave The Door Open.’ We love the bright energy of this rendition, but most of all, we love Yunho’s vocals and Hongjoong rewriting some of the rap in Korean.
Dreamcatcher Covering Shawn Mendes’ ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back’
Recorded in this cute ‘Special Clip’ from their Welcome To The Dream World Tour, we’re obsessed with Dreamcatcher covering Shawn Mendes. The girls are known for their genre-bending work, and this rock version of ‘There’s Nothing Holding Me Back’ is one of our fave examples of that!
ENHYPEN’s Heeseung Covering Justin Bieber’s ‘Off My Face’
The newest cover on our list, ENGENE’s hearts melted when Heeseung’s cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Off My Face’ was released. Heeseung had given us a little sneak preview a couple of weeks prior at KPOP.FLEX in Frankfurt, and we all breathed a sigh of relief when this dreamy full version was released!
Girls Generation’s Seohyun Covering Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now’
From the newest cover on this list to the oldest! Back in 2013, SNSD’s maknae Seohyun gifted us with this dreamy performance of Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now.’ Not only are we obsessed with the staging of this one, but we also love any opportunity we get to see idols playing live instruments!
BTS Covering Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’
Whilst we have to give an honorary shout-out to BTS’ cover of Puff Daddy, Faith Evans, & Sting’s ‘I’ll Be Missing You,’ there was no way we could look past this iconic cover. From their episode of MTV Unplugged, Taehyung chose this song, and it was lowkey a pre-cursor of BTS and Coldplay’s iconic ‘My Universe’ collab.
P1Harmony Covering Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘good 4 u’
We love seeing THP faves P1Harmony experimenting with the pop-punk-influenced style of Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘good 4 u!’ Even more than that, we love seeing the rap line incorporate their own Korean raps into the performance. Plus, the editing on this video is just so good.
When we said there were too many covers to mention, we meant it! Are there any Western covers by your fave K-Pop idol that we simply should not have left out? What’s your favorite cover on this list?
