5 Reasons Why You Should Stan Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers is an award-winning indie/alternative artist from California. She is best known for her solo releases, including her albums Stranger in the Alps and Punisher. Early fans may remember her from an appearance in an Apple commercial with her band Sloppy Joe in 2014.

From releasing covers to GRAMMY nominations, to her most recent tour spanning both North America and Europe, Phoebe Bridgers has come a long way, but we believe it’s never too late to start loving an artist. That is why we have composed a list of the top 5 reasons you should stan Phoebe Bridgers.

1. Her Song Lyrics

First and foremost, Bridgers is a natural songwriter. She has been writing music on her own and with others for over a decade. Drawing inspiration from her own life, pop culture, and her many musical inspirations: Elliott Smith, the Replacements, and other bluegrass and rock musicians.

Her song lyrics are unique to music today and create a vivid image in our minds as her haunting vocals fill our headphones. In her song ‘Smoke Signals,’ off of her 2017 album Stranger in the Alps, she writes:

One of your eyes is always half shut, Something happened when you were a kid, I didn’t know you then and I’ll never understand, Why it feels like I did

When paired with the musical production, Bridger’s lyrics are storybook-like, similar to listening to a good friend.

2. The Reliability Factor

Seeing our favorite musicians talking about their childhood or their favorite television shows is like breaking the fourth wall, what do you mean celebrities are normal people?

But it is also incredibly comforting because it creates this relatability factor.

Phoebe Bridgers has frequently opened up about many personal topics on social media and during her concerts. Her transparency on these topics and through her music can help fans connect with her on a deeper level.

Phoebe frequently shares her dry humor online, explains her distaste for formal education, and in an interview with Rolling Stone said “the best moment of [her] life” was meeting Eeyore in Disneyland.

She’s just like us.

3. Phoebe Bridgers Uses Her Platform To Raise Awareness

She is truly an advocate for Women’s Rights, LGBTQ+ Rights, and Mental Health and actively encourages her fans to vote. In light of Roe V Wade, she released a statement online opening up about her own experience with abortion and linked many resources for people in similar situations.

Before the 2020 presidential election, she promised to record and release a cover of The Goo Goo Dolls’ ‘Iris’ with collaborator Maggie Rogers if President Biden won. This was not only a great way to encourage her fans to register to vote but to use her platform to advocate for what she believes in.

4. Her Collaborations

Another reason to stan the lovely Phoebe Bridgers is her ability to collaborate with other artists.

On top of her great solo projects, Phoebe Bridgers is a part of Boygenius, a group consisting of herself, Julien Baker, and Lucy Darcus as well as a collaboration project with Conor Oberst titled Better Oblivion Community Center.

Both bands have released albums and appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk series.

As well as providing background vocals for various artists, she has recorded many covers of popular songs including Bo Burnam’s ‘That Funny Feeling‘ which currently sits at over 18 million streams on Spotify.

Outside of music, Phoebe was also a guest on an episode of the My Favorite Murders podcast Celebrity HomeTown edition.

5. Phoebe Bridgers Owns A Record Label

Last but certainly not least, the final reason you should stan Phoebe Bridgers is for her passion for equality in the music industry. In 2020, she launched her record label “Saddest Factory” with the help of Dead Oceans. She has expressed her love of discovering artists and decided to build an artist-friendly label. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she mentioned that she was able to create a label that she wished she had when starting in the industry.

The label’s website is designed to look like an intern’s desktop. There are folders that lead to merchandise, music videos, roster talent, and exclusive content all while being titled things like “not porn” and “Morning Briefings (don’t leak).”

The site has all kinds of funny Phoebe Bridgers-related content including messages that pop up asking you to hold Phoebe’s phone calls and to pick up her coffee order.
