2024 has truly been Halsey’s year. They’ve put out the best music of their career, and they are thriving in every other sense. While we were massive fans of Halsey’s before, The Great Impersonator, and every stunning piece of visual art that has come with it has made us into full-on stans. We knew that when looking back on the year that some of our favorite artists have had, we had to highlight Halsey.
The Great Impersonator
The Great Impersonator, truly, was a musical highlight of this year for us here at THP! The concept behind the record is both heartbreaking and so beautifully shows Halsey’s deep connection to the artists she loves. Halsey was able to create an album the felt cohesive, despite it being one that explored genre, played around sonically, and took pieces from every corner of the music world. That is a feat few can say they’ve reached. We will forever be in awe of what this project was able to accomplish.
‘Ego’ At the VMA’s
Upon our first listen to The Great Impersonator, ‘Ego’ was instantly a song we loved! But this performance, (which was easily the best of the night) is what really solidified it being one of our favorites on the album. This track was inspired by Dolores O’Riordan (of The Cranberries) and perfectly encapsulates that punk-rock era of music.
‘Lucky’ Music Video
‘Lucky’ is the pop throwback to the early 2000s we have been desperately waiting for. And of course, leave it to Halsey to deliver! ‘Lucky’ takes inspiration from pop icon Britney Spears, which is very clear after even just one listen. All of the bubble gum pop that Britney did earlier in her career is preserved in this one track. We are ‘Lucky’ stans forever.
