Tsunami Mob and Honeybees, it’s been a long year. One of the many artists who got us through the year is Kehlani upon making their comeback to music. They’ve fed us a lot, and we ‘8’ every bit of it up. We’re here to look back at some of our favorite Kehlani moments throughout 2024, our latest rewind.
Their Comeback Game
It’s been two years since Kehlani’s album, blue water road. This year marked their triumphant return. It wouldn’t be a 2024 Kehlani rewind if we didn’t talk about how Kehlani’s year began. On April 4, 2024, they released their first track of the year, ‘After Hours.‘ The song and video gave us all the vibes we needed and had us craving more. We don’t know what we loved more about it—the song, the video, the upbeat energy, the dancing, the serving looks, or everything in between.
CRASH
Kehlani released their fourth studio album, CRASH, on June 21, 2024. The album featured collaborations with Jill Scott reciting poetry, Omar Lay, and Young Miko. It’s been a long time since their last album, and we have to say we were impressed. The singer brought all the vibes from smooth to sultry to upbeat. With every album, Kehlani has us tuning in and making us want more. There were no disappointments or skips with this album. Is it too late to let Kehlani know we’ll meet them at the ‘Chapel’?
NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert
Tsunami Mob has been waiting for Kehlani to have a Tiny Desk Concert for quite some time. When it was announced theirs would drop, fans got excited and eager to see what they would perform. They performed fan favorites like ‘Nights Like This,’ ‘Distraction,’ ‘The Way,’ ‘Can I,’ and ‘After Hours.’ Kehlani took us through a beautiful journey with a song from most of their projects. Also, we can’t fail to mention how they used their platform to speak on their support of countries, such as Palestine and Guam, and taking a stand wanting others to do the same.
Kehlani Remix
This isn’t something we saw coming. We hoped Kehlani would hop on Jordan Adetunji’s single ‘KEHLANI.’ After all, the song heavily mentions them. We got exactly what we wanted with ‘KEHLANI REMIX.’ They did exactly what we expected, slayed with their verse, and looked good.
While We Wait 2
We thought we would get served greatness with only an album and tour, but that was until Kehlani dropped their new mixtape, While We Wait 2, on August 28th. Kehlani always knows how to deliver and that’s exactly what they did! They delivered, they served, they rapped, they sang. They most importantly, gave us all the feels. We were giving songs about the single life, love, heartbreak, ups, and downs, and everything in between. Listeners smiled and cried. Fans memorized our favorite songs so we could sing along to them. While We Wait 2 was a sequel to While We Wait, and we feel like Kehlani did the first one proud.
CRASH World Tour
With a new album comes a new tour… most of the time, anyway. Kehlani announced their CRASH World Tour on July 23th. They also announced their opening acts would be FLO and Anycia from September 4th to November 2nd. We, at The Honey POP were lucky enough to check out the tour. We have to say each artist served looks and did their thing.
GRAMMY Nominated
Whether you enjoy watching award shows or not, learning one of your favorites has been nominated for an award can be exciting. Kehlani hasn’t been nominated for a GRAMMY award in years. On November 8th, 2024, Kehlani was nominated for three GRAMMYs. These nominations include Best Progressive R&B Album for CRASH, Best R&B Song for ‘After Hours,’ and Best Melodic Rap Performance for ‘KEHLANI REMIX,’ their collaboration with Jordan Adetunji. We don’t know what’s in store for the 2025 GRAMMYs, but we wish Kehlani nothing but good vibes and luck.
Christmas Feature
This is a collaboration we couldn’t say we saw coming. GloRilla and Kehlani teamed up for GloRilla’s Christmas single ‘Xmas’ Time.’ While we were hoping we could hear Kehlani putting a rap on it, they still did their thing with their lyrics on the chorus. Hopefully, one day soon we can get a Kehlani Christmas album or at least one where she raps and sings. We can hope, can’t we?
Honeybees and Tsunami Mob, there you have it. These were some of our favorite and notable Kehlani 2024 moments in the form of a rewind. Do you have any standout moments from them? Did you get to catch them on tour? What do you think is up next for them? We’re thinking of potentially a mixtape tour. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
