We’ve been spoiled for the past months with all this Blackpink solo content, and the amount of masterpieces we’re getting is hard to process. We had Rosé‘s album, as well as Lisa and Jennie‘s pre-release singles, with both albums right around the corner, but the one member who had been keeping everything for herself was Jisoo. But the day is finally here for her to show to the world, once again, what she’s made of.
After her massive hit with her solo debut, ‘Flower,’ in 2023, the bar was set high for Jisoo. Yet, her first mini-album, AMORTAGE, is somehow even better than her debut. This four-track release manages to showcase Jisoo’s charisma, talent, and unique voice, as well as her artistry. Nothing has ever been more Jisoo, and we’ve never loved her more. AMORTAGE is simply a must-listen.

‘Earthquake’
‘earthquake’ hits. With a luring, mysterious intro, Jisoo had us trapped in one second. The track is intense and electric, with its EDM-inspired beat. ‘earthquake’ is heavily inspired by 2010s pop, yet it feels so fresh and new. It’s energetic, enticing, and so addictive. ‘earthquake’ is all about the earth-shattering experience that it can be to develop a crush, an attraction. With a perfect production, Jisoo’s voice is the cherry on top of the cake as she shows all the versatility and specialness in her tone. ‘earthquake’ is truly the perfect song for Jisoo, and it’s the perfect song for our ears.
Along with her music career, Jisoo’s acting career is at an all-time high. She’s booked and busy, needless to say. She used her acting skills to her best advantage to bring ‘earthquake’ to life with a music video that feels like a movie. The production is out of this world. It’s dark, mysterious, cool, and truly elevates the song even more. ‘earthquake’ is simply a slay on every front.
AMORTAGE
The B-sides are even more of a complement to ‘earthquake.’ Even though the title track was enough to have us in a chokehold, the b-sides and the story Jisoo tells through AMORTAGE make this release unforgettable.
While ‘earthquake’ depicts love in a nuanced way, where love can be good but also shocking, ‘Your Love’ is a beautiful love song that explodes with happiness and adoration. With one song, Jisoo depicts what it’s like to fall helplessly in love – it’s cheerful, optimistic, bright, and fills the room with love in just one second, all while giving pop excellence. But ‘TEARS’ is the other side of the coin. It’s about the falling out of the relationship. Yet, with its energetic and electrifying beat, ‘TEARS’ becomes an empowering banger.
‘Hugs & Kisses’ is the closing track, but it doesn’t make it any less of a highlight. The energy is beyond high throughout AMORTAGE, reaching its natural climax in ‘Hugs & Kisses.’ It’s the perfect anti-thesis to ‘eartquake,’ where a crush shakes her world. ‘Hugs & Kisses’ is when she’s not only over her love, but it’s something she doesn’t need. It’s another moment of empowerment with the most bright, almost-summery, addictive beat. It ends the cycle, the story that Jisoo tells us with AMORTAGE, a mini-album that explores her vocals in a way we’ve never seen before and brings her artistry to the forefront. AMORTAGE is a mini-album for the books.
