G-DRAGON is officially back! This is not a drill, people. After almost eight long years (12 years if you count from his last full album) and an even longer 19 days, the King of K-Pop has finally released his third solo studio album, Übermensch! *Cue our whisper screams because it’s the middle of the night as we write this*
G-DRAGON has been keeping us fed with content and teasers all month. Our social media timelines had so many theories and predictions that we didn’t know what to expect! We thought we were ready, but (spoiler alert!) we weren’t prepared for just how incredible and versatile Übermensch is. GD brings completely new colors to his discography, and we’re obsessed, to say the least.
We want to do this comeback review justice, so there’s no other way than to do a track-by-track breakdown. Y’all ready? Let’s start going down the tracklist!
The Pre-Releases: ‘HOME SWEET HOME’ And ‘POWER’
G-DRAGON starts off Übermensch with his two pre-release tracks from the final months of 2024. We can’t believe it’s already been over three months since he dropped ‘HOME SWEET HOME’ (featuring Taeyang and Daesung) and ‘POWER.’ Maybe it’s because we’ve listened to these two pre-release tracks every day since… But trust us, manifesting a comeback is no easy task. The past eight years feel like nothing compared to the last two and a half weeks since he announced Übermensch. Because we knew when the album was coming then; we just didn’t realize how bad we’d be fiending for it.
‘TOO BAD’ (Feat. Anderson .Paak)
The third song on Übermensch and the only song with a feature is ‘TOO BAD (feat. Anderson .Paak).’ And we didn’t know we needed this duo until we got it. It’s an upbeat party song that we can imagine will take over every club for the rest of 2025. G-DRAGON had to remind us real quick that he still can get down on the dance floor! He and Anderson .Paak looked like they had so much fun on set for the music video. And we can’t forget Karina’s cameo dancing with G-DRAGON. We missed seeing this kind of confident player energy in a GD song. ‘TOO BAD’ is just TOO GOOD!
‘DRAMA’
In a very G-DRAGON-esque 180-degree turn, the next song hit us right in the feels. ‘Drama’ sounds so haunting with his rough, raspy vocals and the soft piano melody. G-DRAGON sings about a drama-filled, toxic love that just takes and takes. He poses as a wind-up doll that’s constantly under surveillance. And the dance sequence in the music video absolutely took ‘Drama’ to the next level. We had to play it back a few times to make sure, but he sings in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. This ballad is a piece of art through and through.
‘IBELONGIIU’
Song five may just be one of our favorite songs from Übermensch! ‘IBELONGIIU’ is a love song that sounds just like the start of summer. Like when the possibilities are endless, and your excitement is at an all-time high. G-DRAGON tells his lover that his life is theirs, and he’s known that since the beginning. Do you hear his high notes? Those paired with his rap verses are such a killer combo! You can find us blasting ‘IBELONGIIU,’ belting along, and driving with all the windows down for the foreseeable future.
‘TAKE ME’
G-DRAGON is in his lover boy bag, and we’re not mad about it! ‘TAKE ME’ is a fun, pop-rock song that brings all the feel-good vibes to the album. It sounds like a breath of fresh air as GD sings about giving everything he has to the woman he loves. We can see it being the soundtrack to a day at the amusement park. Does that make any sense? Anyway…the lyrics? “Take me, take me, take me, I’m yours.” If you say so, GD! Do you like amusement parks? (Asking for a friend.) And we love the strong guitar and drum instrumentals, especially when he hit us with the ultimate guitar solo at the end, like HELLO?!
‘BONAMANA’
Moving along, this next track strips everything down to a calm guitar. But make no mistake. ‘BONAMANA’ is the hardest song on Übermensch. G-DRAGON’s enunciation and cadence is undoubtedly our favorite in all of K-Pop. Listening on headphones felt like an otherworldly experience, especially after knowing the scandalous lyrics. We can only imagine hearing ‘BONAMANA’ live. Luckily, we won’t have to wait long. G-DRAGON will kick off his world tour with two concerts in Seoul on March 29 and 30. Then, he’ll headline the Head in the Clouds Festival in Los Angeles in May. We’re keeping our eyes peeled for more tour updates.
‘GYRO-DROP’
Rounding out Übermensch, AKA the album of the year, is ‘GYRO-DROP.’ With a groovy, synthpop sound, it’s such a fitting song to end the album. (We also caught the shared “GD” initials of GYRO-DROP and G-DRAGON.) Dare we say it deserves a music video set in front of the Gyro Drop at Lotte World? We get a lot of that familiar G-DRAGON swag, along with a retro and trendy instrumental. This track highlights GD’s smooth rap verses and high-quality production. If and when we see G-DRAGON perform this song live, you better believe we’re clapping along with everything we have.
‘Übermensch’ means ‘Beyond-Man,’ representing an individual who transcends themselves. This album embodies the idea of presenting a stronger and more resilient version of oneself to the public. I hope this strength resonates with my fans through my music.
G-DRAGON on his new album, Übermensch
