From touring with Rachel Chinouriri to releasing her newest song ‘Don’t Tell The Girls,’ BIZZY is on top of her game! We have been fans of BIZZY since first hearing her song ‘Anybody,’ so it’s no surprise to us that she is crafting a song like ‘Don’t Tell The Girls,’ which perfectly showcases what a deep understanding of pop music BIZZY has.
We were lucky enough to get to chat all about this track, and about touring with Rachel Chinouriri with BIZZY, so let’s dive in!
Stream ‘Don’t Tell The Girls’ here!
Hi BIZZY! Welcome to The Honey Pop! Thank you so much for chatting with us! Before we really jump in, how would you describe your music to someone who is tuning in for the first time?
Ooooo, I would say “the soundtrack to your love life”
We are just a few days away from the release of ‘Don’t Tell The Girls,’ which marks your first song of the new year! What can you tell us about what this song means to you and what you’re hoping fans take from the song?
Ekkk I’m SO EXCITED!! This song is my favorite one I’ve released so far! It feels like the next step in my music. It really opened some doors for me creatively that I feel like I wasn’t sure how to enter for a while, so it has been exciting just playing around and trying new things. I hope my fans just have fun with it and scream it with their girl friends.
The first time we listened to ‘Don’t Tell The Girls,’ we automatically pictured it playing in a rom-com backing one of the infamous montage scenes. If you had to pick a rom-com for ‘Don’t Tell The Girls’ to feature in, what would be your pick?
OMG YESSS! That’s exactly what I want everyone to picture. That’s what I was picturing when I wrote it. This song gives me Clueless vibes. I don’t necessarily know what scene it would go in, but aesthetically and sonically, I feel like it fits there!
We know you’re about to head out on the road with Rachel Chinouriri! What does the time from finding out you are going on this tour to the first tour date look like in terms of preparation?
Well, it starts with screaming like a little kid that I get to be a part of this amazing tour and lineup! And then a f*ck ton of planning, hahah. Just a lot of logistics to get figured out, like what we’re driving in, who I’m bringing band-wise, set list, etc. All those fun things. And then rehearsal!
And on a similar note, when you’re crafting your setlist, what goes into choosing which songs you will perform?
The setlist is my holy grail. It’s so important to me to get the flow right. I try to make sure to bring people on a roller coaster ride. One they can go up and down with, that still feels seamless. I try to tell a story through my setlist.
We have to ask a question about ‘Anybody,’ as we still to this day have that song on repeat! What has it been like seeing what a life of its own this song has taken on since its release?
Oh my gosh, thank you!! It has literally been insane!! I think back to the night before it was released. I was sitting in my car listening to it, and as the song ended, I was like, “Wait, am I, like, so bad, like, is this so embarrassing?” I was freaking out. I loved the song but was just so scared to put myself out there into the world. But my gosh, am I glad I did! Seeing it play any sort of role in people’s lives is the COOLEST thing in the world.
With ‘Don’t Tell The Girls,’ are we looking at a stand-alone track? Or is this just one piece of a bigger project?
Can’t tell you for sure either way, butttttt maybe kinda sorta…more things will come from it!
Once again; thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, we have to ask, what song are you most looking forward to seeing Rachel play on tour?
Omg, thank you!!! This has been awesome! Ahhh this is so hard. I’m such a fan of hers! I think “Never Need Me”. That song is just so damn good
