It’s been a couple of weeks since LE SSERAFIM released their newest mini-album, HOT, and while all the songs have stuck with us, there’s one that we can’t keep out of our minds: ‘Come Over.’ LE SSERAFIM’s title tracks are always hits, but they are also no strangers to giving us some of their best music and most iconic songs in b-sides. We got ‘Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife,’ ‘SMART,’ and just in HOT, LE SSERAFIM released their best song yet, ‘ash,’ and the beyond-infectious ‘Come Over.’ They know how to treat a B-side like art, and here’s why ‘Come Over’ isn’t leaving our minds or our playlists.
The Sound
First things first: the music. Nothing about ‘Come Over’ would work if the song wasn’t extremely catchy and just an incredible song. It’s the brightest point in HOT, which makes it stand out, but the melodies and subtle, inviting melodies are also what makes any listener immediately drawn to it. To complement the title track, ‘Come Over’ shares the retro vibe but in a much more carefree way. ‘Come Over’ makes you put all your worries aside in its over 2-minute run, and LE SSERAFIM‘s vocals tie the entire thing with the prettiest bow.
The Outfits
When it comes to the concept around ‘Come Over,’ the girls went all in with the retro aesthetic. ‘Come Over’ doesn’t give off a retro vibe only sonically but also in its styling. This was the promoted b-side for this era, and the gorgeous ’60s outfits, curly hairstyles, and bold make-up styles perfectly embodied the song’s vibe. It felt taken right out of a ’60s movie every single time, which only makes you live more in the atmosphere of the song.
The Choreography
‘Come Over’ has a hypnotic performance, and it isn’t just about the outfits and the aesthetic that comes with it. It is so secret that LE SSERAFIM is one of the best groups when it comes to performing. They often deliver powerful and complex choreographies, but they have a lot of versatility to them, too. ‘Come Over’ is a song that shows their most cheeky and fun performance style—and they kill it. From the domino intro to the repeated points that highlight the best parts of the song, watching LE SSERAFIM perform literally makes you want to go and dance with them. With every performance, you can tell they love this song more than anyone, and it’s infectious. Their aura when performing adds even more depth and fun to the song; we could never get tired of it.
The Music Video
But of course, what better media to mix a fantastic song with a special aesthetic and an addictive performance than a music video? The music video for ‘Come Over’ feels strange, weird, and quirky in the best way possible. It takes you on a ride through different settings and different absurd vibes—almost reminiscent of their ‘CRAZY‘ music video. From the makeup to the outfit to the hairstyling, passing through the cinematography, the camera angles, and the effects, everything about this music video makes ‘Come Over’ even more special.
