Summary: Fifteen-year-old Cam Reynolds wants to spend his sophomore year flying under the radar. That shouldn’t be too hard, considering he’s a human going to school with kids who have paranormal powers, like his best friend and witch, Al, and his longtime werewolf crush, Mateo.
Then Cam has a psychic glimpse of the future in front of most of the student body, seeing a gruesomely murdered teen girl from the point of view of the killer. When Cam comes to, he knows two things: someone he goes to school with is a future murderer, and his life is about to change. No longer a mere human but a clairvoyant, one of the rarest of supernatural beings, Cam finds himself at the center of attention for the first time.
As the most powerful supernatural factions in the city court Cam and his gift, he’ll have to work with his friends, both old and new, to figure out who he can trust and who might be a werewolf in sheep’s clothing. Because the clock is ticking, and Cam and his friends must identify the girl in the vision, find her potential killer, and prevent the murder from happening. Or the next murder Cam sees might be his own.
The Found Family
We love a diverse cast, especially one as well-rounded as Cam’s chaotic, paranormal friend group. He befriends a psychic, a werewolf, a sprite, a witch, and a human (which sounds like the start of a bad joke). Things were uncomfortable at first, what with each of their factions competing to recruit Cam as an ally. Ultimately, everyone showed up for each other and for Cam when it mattered most. We had our doubts about certain shady characters, but they came through and proved themselves by the end.
Cam’s Personal Journey
Cam’s experience coming into his clairvoyant powers in Love at Second Sight is truly inspiring. His parents want him to be “a normal human” so badly that they don’t want him to publicize it. He decides to post videos verifying his powers despite their bigotry. Cam must also learn to use psychic blocks so he doesn’t trigger his powers every time he touches someone. And his full acceptance of his powers comes only moments before he stands to lose them forever.
Connecting The Dots
Love at Second Sight is not only a fantasy and a romance, but it’s also a mystery. Cam and his friends set out to find a girl on the verge of death, whom he’d seen in his first glimpse. They try to find who could’ve hurt her, along with the when, where, and why of the gruesome scene. Even the friend group has prime suspects. But Cam soon learns that his glimpses do not always show the full picture. And the plot twist really got us good!
