The third Friday in September has finally come, and that means The Favors’ debut album, The Dream, is finally ours. Our favorite new duo, FINNEAS and Ashe, debuted their new band, The Favors, with three singles – ‘The Little Mess You Made,’ ‘The Hudson, and ‘Times Square Jesus’ – ahead of their debut album, The Dream. Each single got us more and more excited for the full-length album, and now, it’s finally here.
“It was just drums, an old CP80, electric piano, guitar, bass, and Ashe and me singing together,” Finneas recalls. “That’s how every artist dreams of making a record,” Ashe adds. “People don’t record live vocals together anymore—it felt so romantic and fun.” “It’s a true long-play album,” Finneas continues. “The kind you put on start to finish while cooking with friends.” “I want you to feel warm, fuzzy, and heartbroken all at once,” Ashe concludes.

Right off our first listen of the album, we resonated most with ‘Ordinary People’ and ‘Moonshine.’ These two tracks really give fans a listen to the variety of styles and genres on the album. The Dream is a blend of old-school love duets and timeless songs reminiscent of Rick Springfield’s ‘Jessie’s Girl.’ Throughout the entire 38 minutes and 14 seconds, you’ll get emotional whiplash from heartbreak to the warmth of that first love feeling. If you love Fleetwood Mac, Florence And The Machine, Simon & Garfunkel, or Carole King, we know you’ll love The Favors just as much.
‘David’s Brother’
Over the past few days, fans have really seemed to connect strongly to ‘David’s Brother,’ the ninth song on the album. We’ve been watching the music video for ‘David’s Brother’ nonstop since it came out. It’s directed by FINNEAS’s partner and OG YouTuber, Claudia Sulewski. Anytime we hear that Claudia is directing a music video, we’re immediately locked in!
Our favorite part about the video is that it features the entire band – FINNEAS, Ashe, Ricky Gourmet, and David Marinelli – in an old dive bar. The band starts off by lazily sitting in a booth, but then turns the night around by bringing out a set of drums and singing on the pool table, while also taking shots with fellow bar bystanders.
If you’re loving ‘David’s Brother’ like us, or you’re just wanting to hear the whole album live (duh), you can catch the band live on October 1 in New York City—get tickets here—or at Austin City Limits Music Festival, which you can get tickets to here. We can’t wait to see you on the barricade!
