Ashnikko celebrated her birthday in unforgettable fashion with two shows at O2 Brixton Academy in London, and we had to be there for at least one of them! She delivered a performance full of her signature eccentricity, confidence, and magnetic sensual energy. And we are still in awe that we were there!
The stage production was out of this world. Literally! From a small door through which Ashnikko made her theatrical entrance to the soft pink lighting that gave the venue a dreamy glow, every detail was made to immerse us in her SMOOCHIES world. Two dancers not only showed us some amazing moves but also moved props across the stage throughout the night. Transforming the scenery from hearts to clouds, they made this whole show feel like a fever dream. The costumes tied everything together, creating a world that felt playful, bold, and slightly burlesque. It was definitely a space where femininity was celebrated in a very theatrical way!
The audience, with their bunny ears, glitter makeup, vibrant outfits, and even handmade headpieces, fit right into the whole scenery. It felt so good to be in a room where everyone could celebrate their individuality. The atmosphere was open, inclusive, and unapologetically expressive. And that’s exactly what we expected from an Ashnikko show!
Ashnikko, who described her music in an interview with NME as “angry, punk, hip hop, sad-girl-feminist, bubblegum, poo-poo music,” definitely showed us what she meant by that. Her lyrics move between vulnerability and defiance. Fast-paced beats and explosive choruses pulled the audience into the world she built on stage. From unrequited crushes to fierce feminist anthems, she presented it all with wit and theatrical flair, making even the sharpest edges feel exciting rather than heavy.
As the show closed with fan favorites like ‘Slumber Party’ and ‘Daisy’, the energy in the room reached its peak. After a journey the show had taken us on, the songs from her DEMIDEVIL era reminded us all why we had gathered there in the first place. For a few hours, reality faded, replaced by pink light, bubblegum sounds, and the shared joy of stepping into the SMOOCHIES world. Happy birthday, Queen!
