Mimi Webb has been a constant on our playlists since ‘House On Fire’ first hit our airwaves; her pop genius has not gone unnoticed since! If you aren’t already on board, the expanded version of her album Confessions is the perfect time! While Confessions was already a record we loved, the addition of the bonus tracks feels like the perfect ending to a now completed story.
We got the chance to chat with Mimi all about Confessions: An Unexpected Turn Of Events, ‘House On Fire,’ her Primark Disney collaboration, and so much more!!
Listen to Confessions: An Unexpected Turn Of Events here!
Hi Mimi! Thank you so much for chatting with us! Before we jump in, can you tell our readers a bit about who you are as an artist?
I think a lot of people know me as Mimi Webb, the pop star, but to me, I’m Amelia Webb, a girl from Kent who loves horses, fish & chips, and the English countryside. Sometimes you will find me on a horse and having a roast dinner with my friends, and other times you will find me in full glam performing for thousands of people, and I love that I get to do both.
Confessions: An Unexpected Turn of Events is officially out! This was a five-song expansion of the standard version, Confessions, which came out last year. For you, did you always know these five songs were going to round out the album eventually?
Yes, it was always the plan. This album has been years in the making; we had every small detail planned. At the end of 2024, my team and I sat in a studio in LA and listened to every single song I had written, and picked the ones that would make the main album, then the deluxe.
‘Mind Reader’ with Meghan Trainor was the first track released from this record. What tone do you think this song sets for the album?
I think that song was the perfect way to establish this album as the new Mimi Webb. This song was my first ever feature, and wow, what a first feature to have! Launching the album with it felt like a way of saying I’m ready to try new things.
With ‘Confessions’ from conception to it being available for us to listen to in its entirety, how long was the creative process for you?
2+ years. I started working on this album, the music and the ideas for it, from the moment that I released my debut, Amelia. A lot of the songs I wrote during the early stages didn’t make it, but every song and every studio session helped shape the album in some way or another.
Growth! In so many ways, it seems to be a theme on this record. Can you pinpoint a personal victory tied to growth that you accomplished during crafting this record?
I learned not to care what anyone else thinks and to trust my gut and my taste. I started this album doing music that I didn’t fully believe in because I was trying to listen to opinions on how to create what was the best “hit record.” I soon realized that wasn’t the music I wanted to put out, and I needed to trust what I thought was best.
We have to talk about your The Mouse and The Muse collection with Disney and Primark! How did this collaboration come about? And what is your favorite piece from the collection?
I love the red crew neck. This collection feels so true to my everyday style. Cute and stylish, yet relaxed and comfortable.
When you look at the finished product of the world you’ve created with Confessions, is there a line in one of the songs that you think sums up what this album as a whole is all about?
“Broken clocks work twice a day”. This is a line from the single ‘Narcissist,’ and it was part of the mood boards of the album from the very beginning. If you look at the album’s cover, the clock theme appears very often as well. It means that even when you do things in a way that could be perceived as wrong, it can still be working out for you.
We first discovered your music through ‘House On Fire,’ which even four years later still has a life of its own. What is your relationship to that song now, versus when it first came out?
I think my relationship to that song hasn’t changed; it was special from the moment it came out. We always knew it was going to be big, and fans loved it from the beginning! It’s still the song that gets the crowd going the most at my shows, and for that, I cherish it so much.
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Before we let you go, what can fans expect as we head into the spring/summer months?
Shows and festivals! I’m so excited to get back on the road this summer! Connecting with my fans and performing for them is my favorite thing, and I can’t wait to be back with them.
