It’s Friday, and that means new music! Whether you’re reading this before your commute to work or before your big Friday night plans, we have the perfect new music soundtrack. Alternative is a broad spectrum, so whether you’re looking for rock, R&B, or indie, we’ve got you covered. Just read on!
‘Go Figure’ – Alemeda
Alemeda is done putting her energy into people who don’t deserve it. Between her last single, ‘Broken Record,’ and the latest, she is channeling her frustrations into carefree pop-rock songs. For those of you who are currently dealing with an entitled friend, a partner who refuses to take accountability, or any annoying person really, this is for you. If you are simply over it, take a moment to enjoy Alemeda’s biting, witty, infectious song, and then go tell that person off! It’s what Alemeda would want.

‘one’n a million‘ – Arcy Drive
Arcy Drive is channeling the summer sun with this cheery new song. This indie-rock gem marks the beginning of a new era for Arcy Drive. It’s their first single since signing with Atlantic Records, and this one will be hard to beat! With a happy-go-lucky sound, it feels just like sitting on a beach without a care in the world. Then the force of a bridge shocks us out of the relaxed calm we’ve settled into. ‘one’ n a million’ effectively reminds us what an authentically Arcy Drive song sounds like.

‘Parking Garage Song #5’ – The Maine
Surprise! We thought The Maine’s tenth album Joy Next Door was complete. But with the addition of ‘Parking Garage Song #5,’ we can tell something was always missing. It’s a joyous ode to living in the moment and appreciating the little things in life, and we agree that it completes the album. Joy Next Door seamlessly blends modern, experimental elements with the pop-punk sound that they’re known for. The acoustic sound of ‘Parking Garage Song #5’ is the final piece of the puzzle.

‘Flood’ – Dua Saleh (featuring Bon Iver)
Dua Saleh continues to impress with their album Of Earth & Wires. Using music to connect with the Earth, they provide a fresh take on the modern world. Not only are the lyrics refreshing, but the style is uniquely Dua Saleh. They refuse to be tied down to a single genre, resulting in a mix of indie, R&B, electronic pop, and Sudanese folk. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, the album features indie-folk legend himself, Bon Iver, as well as contributions from Aja Monet and Gaidaa.

‘voodoo’ – Bailey Spinn
If you’re looking for a heavier song this week, ‘voodoo’ is the one for you. Bailey Spinn is one of the most exciting emerging voices in rock, and you definitely don’t want to miss out. This track explores the implications of love and heartbreak in the age of the internet, and reminds us that it’s harder to hide when everyone lives online. Set to a moody collection of gritty guitar riffs, ‘voodoo’ is simply addictive.

‘Emily’ – Daisy Grenade
Alt-pop duo Daisy Grenade put their heart and soul into their latest EP So Much To Say, and it’s paid off. While it’s perhaps their most vulnerable project yet, it’s also a lot of fun. Standout track ‘Emily’ reminds us that sometimes it’s best to be petty. And despite what the song and the video show us about how messy relationships between women can be, we will continue to worship women. It’s what they would want, we think.

‘I Never See Her’ – Spacey Jane
Just over a year after they released their album If That Makes Sense, Spacey Jane is losing no momentum. In fact, if their two latest songs, ‘Do You Really Love Her’ and ‘I Never See Her’ are anything to go off of, they’re getting better. Their distinct blend of playful style and moody lyrics makes them the perfect summer listen. They certainly held a permanent spot in our playlists last summer, and it looks like they’re refusing to give it up. After all, only Spacey Jane could have us dancing so merrily to lyrics like “I’d die if I could do it.” And only Spacey Jane could have us pondering the meaning of home and belonging so cheerfully. The vibrant colors of the music video only prove our point: Spacey Jane is our band of the summer.
