The next diverse June read is R.J. Valldeperas’ debut YA fantasy, Their Will Undone! The book is inspired by the story of the Inca Maiden of Llullaillaco and is the first in a fantasy duology (with a cliffhanger ending). Their Will Undone takes us back to the Inca Empire, where seventeen-year-old Nina gets chosen to be the emperor’s new wife. As the emperor’s trusted friend and solder, Kasik must bring Nina back to the capital unharmed. Winners & Liars By Aleema Omotoni
Finally, we recommend Aleema Omotoni’s standalone mystery, Winners & Liars! This book has a stunning backdrop of a Victorian-era English estate, as well as the rush of a high-stakes inheritance competition. Following the death of their beloved Professor Darnley, Derin and her classmates get the chance to be named his next heir, claiming the entire Kenfield estate and inheritance for themselves. But the competition is ruthless, and Derin can’t seem to trust anyone. Especially not after she gets a note about a Darnley family secret.
