Did y’all hear about the band that came ‘Back From The Dead?’ It’s only our favorite band in the world, The Cab, of course! After a 15 year hiatus, The Cab is back with a new album, Chasing Crowns, and a new tour called the ‘Back From The Dead Tour!’
We got to sit down this week with Alex Deleon to chat all things Chasing Crowns, the tour they are currently on, and even their upcoming Warped Tour sets. So without further ado, let’s get into the interview!

You recently released your first album in 15 years, Chasing Crowns. What are you hoping fans will take away from this album?
With every record we do, it’s our way to share our story with the world and what’s so special is to see how fans listen to our music and can relate to it in their own ways. Once the music is released it’s not ours anymore… it becomes theirs. I hope they feel all of the heart we put into making the album and we hope that everyone knows that they are not alone. The themes of the album are that broken is beauty and that if you want something in life you need to chase it and fight for it. This life is worth fighting for.
Chasing Crowns is honestly a masterpiece of music that flows beautifully through and blends multiple genres together, which is our favorite type of music. Is there a genre that you haven’t touched on that you’d like to explore in the future?
It would be super fun to lean even more heavily into soul and R&B. We have a ton of R&B influence but we have never gone 1000% all the way on it. That would be super fun and I think the style of my vocals would go well with that. Maybe one day we will do it!
We go through phases with the songs from Chasing Crowns and cannot pick our favorite as it changes frequently. Today it’s ‘Locked and Loaded,’ but last week it was ‘Hellraiser.’ If you could pick one song from your previous releases to be a member of the Chasing Crowns era, which one would you choose and why?
‘Living Louder’ would fit in incredibly well on Chasing Crowns, especially lyrically and thematically. You only get one life so you have to squeeze all of the juice out of it that you can!
Some of the inspiration behind Chasing Crowns is the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi. Can you tell us a little more about when you learned about Kintsugi and how it has resonated with this new era of The Cab?
We took some time to grow as individuals; we all went our separate ways and figured ourselves out. And then years later, we came back, stronger than ever, because in those last 10 years, we were able to become our own ‘pieces’. That’s the philosophy of Kintsugi. It says things can actually become more beautiful after they’re broken. Being broken doesn’t mean you’re finished — it means you have the opportunity to repair and become something even stronger.
It’s been a long time since we have gotten to see The Cab live (minus your iconic set at WWWY)! After being away for so long, is there a song or moment during this tour that you have been most excited for?
It’s been so exciting to just reunite with fans from over the years, people we met years ago and to see them out in the crowd – some with their own kids – has been really exciting. And, of course, meeting the new fans we were excited for because it’s been 10 years.
There’s been fans we’ve never played live for and so to have that opportunity again was definitely something we were looking forward to. But also, the chance to play songs we’ve never played live. Playing some of those songs like ‘Intoxicated’ for the very first time…we were plotting out the setlist and knew we had to play some fan favorites that we never did live before. So the anticipation of knowing we were going to surprise fans with that was awesome.
For the Back From The Dead Tour, you’ve gotten Paradise Fears to agree to come “back from the dead” and open for the last half of the tour with y’all! As someone who followed those tours from way back in the day, thank you for bringing them back. How did that conversation come about?
We’ve stayed really close with Paradise Fears throughout the years. They’re super close friends. Sam even officiated my wedding. And we know that there’s so much love from our fans for them, and from their fans for us, that it just made sense that if we’re going to do this thing again…let’s do it together!

We are about halfway through the Back From The Dead Tour. What is something that has surprised you with this run of shows?
For us, this tour was never only about celebrating a new record, it was about coming back together and reconnecting with the entire The Cab family. There’s always some uncertainty when you introduce new songs, especially after being away for so long.
You wonder if fans will only want to hear the tracks they grew up with. So, hearing crowds sing every word to the songs from Chasing Crowns has been the best feeling. It’s a reminder that people aren’t just supporting what we were years ago, they’re embracing who we are now. That kind of response means everything to us.
You’ll be performing at Warped Tour this year as well! Do you have any surprises for that set that may be different from the tour?
Since we currently are still on the Back From the Dead Tour we haven’t thought that far ahead yet, but you know we are going to always try to do something special for Warped Tour! We haven’t played it in almost twenty years so it would only be fitting to try to make our set as memorable as possible for all of the fans but also for ourselves. The weekend should be a cornerstone memory!
Is there anything else that you would like The Honey POP readers to know about The Cab and any future plans?
We’re in a really exciting time right now because there isn’t a ‘must do’ plan. Of course, there’s more music on the way, and we’re excited to keep getting out on the road and seeing fans in places we haven’t had the chance to visit before. But more than anything, we’re enjoying the creative freedom that comes with this comeback.
We’re writing without pressure, exploring different ideas, and letting the songs develop naturally instead of chasing expectations. One of the best parts of being back together has been rediscovering how much we enjoy creating as a band. That energy is driving everything forward, and it feels like we’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible.
It was so nice getting to speak with Alex and learning a little more about The Cab’s newest album, Chasing Crowns. We’ve loved this band since 2008 and it’s been so special to see them grow along with us through the years!
