Welcome! We are so excited to have you. Do you want to introduce yourself before we get started?
My name’s Jack and I play bass.
You guys have made it clear that you are a group that finds true happiness and connection when you are on stage. If you could describe the feeling of playing your music to a live audience in a few words, what words would you use?
Unparalleled, magical, and energetic. I don’t know if there is anything else quite like it.
On the topic of live shows, you guys have toured with some super cool artists over the years. What tour has been your most memorable so far?
We’re super fortunate to have played some amazing shows with so many of our friends over the years. Each tour we’ve done is memorable for different reasons, but the tour surrounding our last album, Heaven is a place, was probably our most memorable. It felt like everything in our career had been leading up to that tour and to see the response to that album and the life that those songs had taken on with the fans was such an unforgettable experience.
You used to, somehow, do everything on your own as independent artists. We absolutely admire your hard work from this. How would you say you’ve been able to develop musically since forming a deal with Nashville’s Riser House Records?
I think a lot of what we do and the responsibility we feel to this band hasn’t changed. We obviously have a bigger team behind us and some more resources when it comes to marketing and promotional materials, but we are still super hands-on when it comes to the creative and the business of this band. The biggest development musically I feel we made was really building off of our last record. We went into this album with a much clearer vision of what we wanted to be sonically and knew the sounds we wanted to continue building on and where we wanted to leave a bit of room for experimenting.
Your music is very reminiscent of so many different genres, from 80’s rock to modern pop, and a ton of others in between. And you guys hit the mark every time! Elaborate on why you choose to go in so many directions, as opposed to staying in a single-genered-box.
It’s honestly just more fun for us. We know what fans have come to expect from us sonically and we love making those songs, but we also love trying new things and pushing ourselves. I think that’s what really keeps things fresh and exciting for us and those end up oftentimes being some of our and our fans favorites. We are fans of music first, and pretty diverse music consumers between the three of us, so there is a lot of inspiration to pull from.
How has being from Indianapolis, which has such a lively music scene, influenced you as artists? Does this reflect anywhere in your music?
I don’t know if it has had a direct influence on our music, but we’re all products of our environment so I’m sure in some ways it has. We haven’t made a full record in Indiana since 2019, so I’m sure the influence was a bit more in the early days. That being said, I love Indiana, it’s home for me, and I’m sure I’ll always find inspiration from that.
We want to say congrats on the release of the new singles from your upcoming album! ‘Saturn’ is your latest release. It makes us want to dance around or drive with the windows down. What were your influences for this track?
Saturn honestly happened very quickly and organically. There wasn’t a ton of talking about what it should or shouldn’t sound like. Everything sort of fell in line pretty quickly which doesn’t always happen haha.
Your newest album, Revolver, comes out on October 2nd. This is such exciting news, and we cannot wait for it to be out! What was the creative process like for this album? What are you most excited for with its release?
The main thing that was different this time around was that we got to work with our good friend Chris Koo (Yueku) who helped engineer and produce a lot of these songs. Working with him was a ton of fun and allowed us to have a little distance from some of the technical aspects of making music during recording and focus more on being creative and having fun. I’m just excited for people to hear the whole thing. We worked on this album for over a year and I feel so proud with how it turned out.
With the new album, you have a ton of live shows coming up! We will definitely have to catch you at a stop. What are you hoping for with this run of live shows?
Hoping to see some new and familiar faces, and to see how these new songs translate live. There are always parts or lyrics while you’re making an album that you point to and go “that’s gonna be a moment” but sometimes we’re surprised by what the fans latch onto.
