There are lots of things we don’t know in life, but one thing we do know is that ROSÉ had to have been the frontwoman of an electrifying garage band in some other timeline! After taking over the world and our playlists with ‘APT.’ and her debut solo album, rosie, she’s making her mark on the pop-rock scene yet again with ‘new trick’ and a collaboration with Apple.
rosie was a beautiful project that explored the complexities of processing heartbreak, and ‘new trick’ is the perfect boppy follow-up that feels like moving on and throwing confetti around the room you once cried your heart out in. Though Rosé confirmed that ‘new trick’ is a standalone single written in May 2026, it’s a satisfying and natural path forward to a brighter outlook that will make you wanna dance instantly.
[I told co-writer Amy Allen that I] hadn’t been able to relate to or write sad songs lately…which was a crazy thing to say, after how addicted I was to writing sad song after sad song for my rosie album… I loved being that girl and channeling that energy in the studio, which felt as if I was channeling that girl into myself. The energy and thrill it was giving me, I was so excited to share that with the world.

‘new trick’ is also the latest addition to Apple’s iconic Shot On iPhone series, in which they team up with some of the biggest stars in music for stunning music videos that show off their phone cameras! Some past examples are Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘get him back!’ and Selena Gomez’s ‘Lose You To Love Me,’ now Rosé and director Dave Meyers have gotten to show off the iPhone 18 Pro. The results are polished without feeling stuffy or unapproachable, showing Rosé sing and dance her heartache away with some cool camera tricks like one section where she’s spinning around and you never see her fully turn away.
Get ‘new trick’ on your fave playlists immediately so you can feel like an awesome rocker girl rom-com character this fall! And maybe make an iPhone music video of your own…
