PLAVE are ready to put the pedal to the metal with their fifth mini album, HYPERDRIVE! Released on October 12th, the virtual K-POP group’s latest project takes PLLI on a ride through five tracks that explore different genres, moods, and sounds. From EDM-powered dance-pop to dreamy bossa nova and refreshing R&B, there’s plenty to discover as PLAVE continue to expand their musical horizons. If there’s one thing HYPERDRIVE proves, it’s that PLAVE are no one-trick pony. The group has already demonstrated their versatility throughout their discography, but this mini album feels like another step forward in showcasing just how much they can do. And with each track offering a different atmosphere, this is one release that could easily find its way onto your playlist for a variety of occasions.
As the title track, ‘Star Trace’ feels like the perfect introduction to HYPERDRIVE. PLAVE’s first EDM-based dance-pop track blends synthesizers, a driving beat, and expansive production to create a sound that feels tailor-made for the album’s high-speed concept.
The track has something almost cyberpunk about it. Imagine driving through a dark tunnel at night, with bright lights flashing past your windows as you speed towards the other side. That futuristic, almost cinematic atmosphere is what ‘Star Trace’ evokes, making it easy to picture the song accompanying a high-speed chase through a neon-lit city.
Yet beneath its energetic production, ‘Star Trace’ retains the emotional sincerity that has become an important part of PLAVE’s music. Its lyrics explore cosmic love and trust, reflecting the special connection between the members and PLLI across the fictional worlds of Asterum and Terra. It’s a fitting reminder that, even as PLAVE experiments with new songs, the emotional connection at the heart of their artistry remains.
One of the most enjoyable things about HYPERDRIVE is how naturally its tracks lend themselves to different moods. If ‘Star Trace’ is the song for speeding through a futuristic tunnel, the rest of the mini album offers a variety of other destinations.
‘GGUN’ brings a laid-back, dreamlike bossa nova influence to the project, offering a different kind of listening experience from the driving energy of the title track. This feels like the soundtrack for cruising along a sun-soaked coastal highway, with Miami, Los Angeles, or a tropical beach destination stretching out ahead of you. It has that effortlessly cinematic feel of a vacation montage in a movie, making it easy to imagine the windows down, the sun shining, and nowhere in particular to rush off to.
PLAVE then switches it up with ‘Sweet Rain,’ which, as its name suggests, feels particularly suited to a rainy day. Whether you’re watching raindrops slide down the windows of a moving car or curled up inside an apartment overlooking a city drenched in rain, the track lends itself to that cozy, reflective atmosphere. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment, even when the weather outside has other plans.
Meanwhile, ‘The Answer Is Yes’ brings an upbeat pop sound that feels made for singing along at the top of your lungs. There’s something especially infectious about this bridge, which practically begs to be shouted along to with fellow PLLI friends during a car ride. It’s easy to imagine this one becoming a favorite for anyone who loves a good group singalong.
Closing the mini album is ‘Rewind,’ a romantic R&B-pop track that takes a more relaxed approach. With its acoustic guitar-driven melody and a steady beat, the song feels like the perfect soundtrack for a sunset drive. Its lyrics, written by the members of PLAVE, reflect on past love, youth, and the value of the moments that have already passed, giving the track a reflective quality that makes it a fitting conclusion to the project.

Together, the five songs create a mini album that feels varied without losing its sense of cohesion. Each track offers something different, but they all find their place within the wider HYPERDRIVE experience. Arguably the biggest strength of HYPERDRIVE is its variety. While PLAVE’s Caligo mini albums leaned more heavily into rock-influenced sounds, this release moves in a different direction, embracing EDM, bossa nova, pop, rock, and R&B across its five tracks.
That shift is exciting because PLAVE have never needed to rely on a single genre in order to define their musical identity. Instead, their discography continues to grow into an eclectic collection of sounds, with HYPERDRIVE offering another opportunity to explore what they’re capable of. What’s particularly impressive is how confidently the group approaches these different styles, with no single genre feeling out of place within the project.
The mini album also continues PLAVE’s collaborative approach to music-making. The members remain closely involved in writing and producing their music, while ‘Star Trace’ features lyrical contributions from Rob Grimaldi, known for his work on BTS’s ‘Butter.’ Meanwhile, K-Pop hitmaker KENZIE and KZLAB contributed to the composition of ‘Rewind.’
Beyond the music, the racing-inspired visuals accompanying HYPERDRIVE bring its central concept to life, with team-based styling and the rivalry between YATAZ and MADBAEZ adding another layer to the release. It’s an extension of the project’s energetic identity, complementing the different musical directions explored throughout the mini album.
As PLAVE continues to reach new international audiences, including through their Billboard 200 debut and their first world tour, 2026 PLAVE WORLD TOUR [KEEP IT MANIC], HYPERDRIVE feels like another meaningful step in their journey. Their virtual identities may be what initially catches some listeners’ attention, but their creative involvement and growing musical range are what make their discography worth exploring.
With HYPERDRIVE, PLAVE prove once again that they’re willing to explore new musical territory without losing the emotional connection that makes their music special. From the futuristic rush of ‘Star Trace’ to the rain-day comfort of ‘Sweet Rain’ and the reflective warmth of ‘Rewind,’ this mini album offers a different experience with every track. It is quintessentially PLAVE and proof of their continuous growth since debuting three and a half years ago.
Whether you’re looking for your next car singalong, a soundtrack for a late-night drive, or something to accompany a quiet moment while watching the rain, HYPERDRIVE has a song for the occasion.
PLAVE aren’t slowing down anytime soon, and we’re excited to see where their musical journey takes them next!
