The AP(not)MAs is the brainchild of Valerie from Valerie’s Voice and originally began as a parody of the Alt Press Music Awards, that ran from 2014-2017. Starting in 2020, the AP(not)MAs showed up as a lighthearted awards show that really focuses on the culture of the scene!
While we love celebrating our favorite bands and their success on the official charts, the AP(not)MAs has categories that really speak to what we do here at THP! We love to have fun with our fellow fans and this awards show helps give our favorite bands something silly to strive for. Back in 2020, Valerie had this set up as a simple survey and now six years later, there’s an entire awards show with guest presenters that we know and love!
In the past couple of years, Awsten Knight from Waterparks, Bonnie from Stand Atlantic, Daisy Grenade, Arrows in Action, Cherie Amour, Punk Rock Saves Lives, and Devin from Honey Revenge have all been presenters and we know 2026 is going to give even more people from the scene a chance to be involved. Maybe one year, you’ll get to see us present an award! 👀
Some of our favorite past awards at the AP(not)MAs that we look forward to every year are: “White Boy of the Month of The Year,” “Lifetime Achievement Award: Honorary Member of The Scene,” and “Tour Incident of the Year.”
