Honey Revenge’s Retrovision is probably one of our most anticipated albums of the year and it feels like we’ve been waiting a lifetime to hear it. June 23rd felt so far away but it’s finally Retrovision release day and we’re so stoked. The final single off the album is ‘Habitual,’ released alongside the album.
‘Habitual’ has that punchy, upbeat, pop-rock sound that we love from Honey Revenge. Their style is distinct and we’d recognize Devin Papadol’s voice anywhere by this point. ‘Habitual’ also has the Honey Revenge trademark of internal reflection set to a fun beat, which is one of the reasons we enjoy their music so much. Devin describes it as “a fun, dancy reflection of my own negative attitude” and how a negative attitude can affect the rest of your life. The track also features one of our favorite Honey Revenge lyrics to date:
So habitual, you’re a little b*tch you know
Reflecting on your own negativity can be frustrating, so we totally get the sentiment packed into this line. If you see us singing this and finger-pointing at ourselves…mind your own business simply. Sometimes you just need to vibe-check your own brain and this lyric is a vibe-check we love.
Honey Revenge never misses with their music videos either, it’s great seeing Devin and Donny bust out their acting chops! The ‘Habitual’ mv does a great job of depicting Devin’s “habitual” routine and how monotonous it can be, emphasizing the message of the song. We’re sure some of you know all too well that negative thinking can become habitual and it can be A Lot™️ to handle. ‘Habitual’ captures that idea perfectly and proves that Honey Revenge simply never misses.
Retrovision‘s release simply added to our list of Honey Revenge bangers. Their entire discography is worth checking out and we just know that you’re going to love it. In addition to ‘Habitual,’ which is quickly climbing our on repeat, some of our non-single favorites off the album are:
‘Fight Or Flight’
We’re obsessed with the edgier sound ‘Fight Or Flight’ takes on. The chorus is so, so catchy and has been stuck in our heads from the first listen. There’s something so satisfying about Devin’s vocals when she sings “it’ll come and go.” It really makes you believe it, that the fight or flight feelings will come and go. Definitely a standout track from the album.
‘Murphy’s Law’
Ah Murphy’s Law. If you don’t know what it is, it’s basically the idea that anything that can go wrong will go wrong at the worst times. This song really captures the vibe when you feel like the world is out to get you and everything is going on. It’s a strange sort of comfort, to know it’s not just you that might be feeling that way.
‘Sensitive’
This track is for all of you out there who can hear the change in someone’s silence. Like you can feel them pulling away or being uninterested. ‘Sensitive’ really captures what that feeling is like, the anxiety and frustration of it. “I’m sensitive to your silence” is a great lyric and this whole track really sums it up well. Honey Revenge really has a knack for reaching into our heads and putting our thoughts and feelings into their music simply.
Honey Revenge said Retrovision needs a killer three-track run and hearing these songs back to back really threw us for a loop (in a good way). It’s too early to say which song off the album is our favorite so we’ll just have to keep streaming and figure it out 😉
Be sure to stream Retrovision and catch Honey Revenge on tour this summer with Arrows in Action. You can grab your tickets here. Now that their debut album is here, we’re patiently awaiting the day we can tell you that Honey Revenge is embarking on a headlining tour.
